The Gilson is a hidden gem! Many people don't realize that you can be served food and drinks while watching currently released movies. It is not fancy food but simple. A great night out. Also recommend the sweet Mexican restaurant Pedro's attached to the theatre for a margarita before or afterwards!

Greenwood Glass Blowing Studio/Gallery/School

We visited Riverton during our recent trip to Connecticut and thoroughly enjoyed our experience at the Greenwood Glass Blowing Gallery. Peter Greenwood couldn't have been more friendly and my wife enjoyed making her own glass paperweight. To add to the experience, the studio is located in a nearly 200 year old New England church. I highly recommend a visit to Riverton if you are in the area.

The Flamig Farm Halloween Hay Ride begins several weeks before Halloween and ends soon thereafter. Each Hayride seats about a dozen people and follows the same trail through a variety of Halloween scenes with live actors. Some of the effects are scary and may not be appropriate for young children and some seniors. Dress appropriately for an outdoor ride of about an hour duration. Also be sure to pick up some locally baked donuts before or after the ride.

Antiques on the Farmington

1 master shopper (!) and 2 others. Antique dealers housed in a large, 2-storied, warehouse-size building with good parking right in town. Clean, well lit, organized with a dizzying array of antiques and vintage items in all price points. Our 1 friend decorates beautifully and is always looking for anything that catches her eye and was quite successful. I was going to enjoy browsing but stumbled upon an item I was not expecting to find in CT. Priced well and per my "professional" shopper friend; you'll regret not getting the 1-of-a-kind item; you can always replenish your cash. (I'm kind of careful with my spending.) Bonnie and Colleen work there and are very knowledgeable, helpful and nice.

Matterhorn Mini Golf

A one-of-a-kind, Swiss-themed miniature golf course in northwest Connecticut, 30 minutes west of Hartford. There's something for everyone at Matterhorn: art to see, bells to ring, fun facts to glean... and all on a colorful, Par 45 course. Our Par 3, 18th hole is a 71' long Alpine Meadow complete with wildflowers (watch out for the groundhogs!). Learn about cheese, chocolate and even the Hadron Collider as you putt your way through 18 holes of adventure in Switzerland. Distant yodeling in the background fades in and out as you cover the half-acre course. Come meet our family of goats - each of which was painted by a local school or artist! (They're fiberglass but still lots of fun...). Family designed, owned and operated since 2015.

This is an adorable mini golf course that is well maintained. The Switzerland theme along with the out-of-this-world detail makes the course very unique. They have fun facts all around and painted goats by local artists and groups. This course is semi-accessible as well.

I really want to give this place a 5, the poor service I received prevents me from doing so. Additionally, the price ($10 - sorry $9.77 for most people) is exorbitant. When she rang us up, I was shocked to have to pay $4 to go in and watch my son play mini golf. When I KINDLY asked why in the world I was being charged to do so, she got super passive aggressive and snapped at me "I have to pay to insure every person that is on the course, so you have to pay to be a 'score keeper'". Sounds like the price of doing business, eh? I figured that cost would be already included in the VERY HIGH price to play the course. She then continued to make sassy comments about how much I will love the course and it is worth it to pay the $4. I paid the $4 to watch my son have a good time and be in the moment with him, not to see your course.

I will never return, but I do suggest that if you enjoy mini golf and don't mind spending crazy amounts of money for it, this place is a must see! If you're on the fence about draining your bank account, try Farmington - they have a more challenging course and good ice cream, too. :)
