Don`t you miss this Monastery on your Murom attractions list, first, it`s got an excellent view of the Oka river, second it`s territory is bigger than other sites and well maintained, with trees, flowers, vegetables and what not, third, here you see an excellent restoration job, the kind of Moscow-scale and actually said to be effected on money coming from Moscow, and, last but not least, it`s got a famous icon of the Virgin Good Listener brought from holy mount Athos in Greece, then, they hold a true piece of St.Nicholas relic and a piece of a finger of local saint Ilya of Murom (Ilya Muromets), the Russian peasant warrier, patron of the Russian lands known from traditional fairy tales and modern Russian cartoons. This monastery is mentioned in the Russian chronicles as early as 1095/96, and some of its stone buildings date of Ivan the Terrible visit in 1554, its helmet-shaped Transfiguration Cathedral is considered the oldest in Murom. Amasingly peaceful place, the kind you feel you can pray and speak to the heaven

Holy Trinity Convent

Reviewed By Koshara

Trinity Convent was founded in 1643 by a rich merchant on the site of an ancient wooden church said to be founded by this town first Slavic ruler prince Konstantin, today this particular site is known as the place where Russian patrons of the family Peter and Febronia rest, and many Russians come here to ask for their blessing in the family life and mattrers related to marriage and children. However, the legend regarding these two saints is quite complicated, and their role as patrons of love and family as alternative to that of St.Valentine is rather questionable, still many young Russians visit the place on their wedding day and on other occasions

Statue of Ilya Muromets

Reviewed By Александр В - Tula, Russia

Karacharovo Village

Karacharovo is known as a place Ilya Muromets, Russian warrior, spent 33 years procrastinating before he finally stood up to make something big out of his life. I expected something more than a tiny church (beautiful though!) and a souvenir shop (some souvenirs were really cool!) but I believe Ilya is such a good object for creating something interesting or entertaining in Murom and its region that over the years this place will be turned into something really worth visiting.
