Blanchard Springs Caverns

I've been to many other Limestone Caverns, but nothing else comes close to this one. The Cathedral Room is one of the wonders of the world. The underground river is great too, as well as looking up the natural entrance.

There are two 'normal' tours, one of one hour and one of two. The long one is available only from Memorial Day through Labor Day. The short one is year round.

There's also a Wild Cavers Tour which lasts all day and which requires special clothes, equipment, and hardihood.

We walked along the paved path and enjoyed the views. We saw the waterfalls, mirror lake, and watched the trout jumping. A great place to relax and have a picnic. Toured this area after viewing Blanchard Springs Cavern.

Mountain View, AR, is internationally known for the preservation of Appalachian/Ozark crafts and hill music. While here we stumbled onto a Grandpa Jones music festival during a banjo competition; the music show for Friday night ended with an ensemble of 20 people on stage, including 2 hammer dulcimers and 6 (count 'em 6) banjos all at the same time. Astonishing.
The next day we returned for the crafts demonstrators in the park. We visited every shop that was open. Great fun talking with the old time printer, and in the wooden toy store. Had to drag my 60 something husband out of there.

This is a great place for grandparents to take grandkids...and show them how things were done in the old days.

St Mary's church sits atop a hill in Altus and has a commanding view of the river valley below. The church is from the 1880s and is quite stunning. My great Aunt who lived in Altus used to talk about the beautiful bells from the church she listened to her whole life in Altus. It's on the way to all the Wineries so if you are visiting them you are sure to pass it.

Spent time with family here. Kids loved riding, and visiting the petting zoo. Friend my, and down to earth atmosphere. Humming birds visited, and the banter between the people on the porch was fun. Wonderful visit. I would recommend it for all.

Brickshy's Backstreet Theater

Reviewed By Just_Another_Joan - Shelton, Washington

Regular admission is $15.00 per person for 2 hours of music and laughter. The theater holds about 280 persons and the seating is comfortable. There is a $1.00 discount for seniors and if you grab a local paper, there is usually another $1.00 off coupon. We enjoyed a matinee at the Back Street Theater on Saturday, Oct 20, 2012. Clancy and the Rag Tags were playing . Clancy is 14 years old and won the state championship at the fiddler's contest this year. We truly enjoy the way she plays that fiddle and the rest of her group are also great musicians. Music is the life and soul of Mountain View, Arkansas. Impromptu groups form outside shops and in the park at all times of the day and well into the evening on most weekends and even some week nights. It seems most families here are musically inclined and encourage their children to participate by playing an instrument, dancing, and/or singing. You will find plenty of talent at Brickshy's Back Street Theater in Mountain View. There are usually DVDs of local artists for sale at entrance and an informal sitting area where you can meet the artists during the 1/2 time break. Snacks can also be purchased at the entrance. A nice break for the whole family.

Peace Pole

Reviewed By arkansawtraveller - Mountain View, Arkansas

The stone pole sits in a beautiful setting surrounded by four stone benches, in the seat of Stone County no less. I am delighted that the community has chosen to light the monument up at night, giving it the dignity and recognition it deserves. The Peace Pole project is intended to bring people together and inspire peace worldwide. Japan planted the first peace pole in 1955. Since then, peace poles have been erected in over 180 countries.
