Paragliding Tandem Istra

Experience the magical Istria from the air. Paragliding Tandem flight in Motovun will take you over the magical old town. In a tandem you are able to fly without any previous experience. After a 15 min briefing you get to fly for 30 min with a highly trained instructor, which is the easiest and safest way to experience the thrill of paragliding. All you need are sporting shoes and a long sleeved jacket. Too easy.

There were several aspects to this experience that contributed to its utmost excellence:
1. Day one of attempted flight was not the best weather, but more importantly was not ideal conditions to paraglide. Rather than take our money and give us (and another couple) a suboptimal, or even slightly dangerous, experience, Airie spent nearly two hours with us driving to different locations and attempting to await better flying conditions before ultimately calling it for the day.
2. After our failed attempt at flying, he let us follow him up the road to Motovun, through the resident only section, so that we could park at the top and enjoy the town in all its glory with ease. After politely declining several of our attempts to buy him a beer, we made plans to meet up the next day.
3. On a gorgeous flying day we met Arie at a takeoff spot near Motovun, and finally partook in this unforgettable experience. His instructions were succinct and spot on, and his explanations made for entertaining education in the air, as I marveled at the novel perspective.
4. If you have never been paragliding, like us, you would be foolish to miss out on this chance to fly in one of the top paragliding sites in the world with a friendly and consummate professional!
5. Bonus: Ask him to book you a reservation with his friend Nevio at Toklarija (set course menu, fine dining in the middle of nowhere). You will NOT be disappointed.

This town is in Istria, an easy drive from Rovijn. It sits atop a mountain and has a medieval wall that surrounds it. The area has olive groves and vineyards that look so pretty. We enjoyed having lunch with a beautiful view of the land. Be sure to walk the walls and climb the church tower. It is a great way to spend a relaxing afternoon.

Ancient Well

I know some will think "it's nothing" an old well head in the center of a town square but here's the thing, this meant LIFE. Motovun, to the best of my knowledge and that of the tourist board, has never been captured by an invading army. So that well has meant that the citizens of Motovun have been safe, they could hold out against siege and continue to thrive. Pretty impressive.

Marko is a delight. We drove up, pulled down the window, and asked for a tour. He smiled and opened the doors to his tasting room. We enjoyed savoring his creations and he even allowed us to taste two wines in the process of fermentation directly from the barrel. We enjoyed getting to know him and sipping some of the best wines in Istria. We had Fakin great time!
