Set in a purpose built building the museum does what it says on the tin: through a series of galleries it looks at how popular music developed in France. There is a particular focus on the hurdy gurdy and bagpipes to illustrate earlier popular music, as well as coverage of some regional folk music and dancing. The museum also covers in some depth the development of rock and roll and how it took over French music as well as how French music was able to respond by forming copycat groups as well as its own original groups and styles. Overall if you have an interest in music of all periods its a really interesting few hours. Being English it was also interesting to learn how popular music developed in France, and offered me a new perspective on the last few decades. The audio guide/ selector worked well and aside from a little noise leakage between the galleries this was a technically good set of displays. It was also comparatively cheap to enter. Lastly a special mention for the temporary exhibition on disco, on until Oct 14. Basically a lot of music samples and a Saturday night fever dancefloor, but enormous fun especially if you remember the era.

Bowling de Montlucon

Went in mid-afternoon Sunday, it was not at all busy. Very friendly hosts who were not bewildered by our dubious use of the French language at all. The food was excellent - even though 'only' a burger they were really nice quality. The bowling was as it should be, lanes that worked with a full range of shoes available. Not sure how bowling price compared to elsewhere - Sunday afternoon was in the more expensive bracket so it didn't seem that cheap, but for what it was there are no complaints from our party, we had fun.

The owners of Magnette provide a good selection of meals from both their plat du jour and a la carte menu. They are delightful people who have run this auberge for many years and have a terrific local knowledge of the area. The meals are always hearty and flavoursome with a great use of local produce. We have dined here on a number of occasions and have never been disappointed. A local gem!

This is a great place to take the kids to run around for an hour on a rainy day. There are tables and chairs for the parents to sit and have a coffee while they supervise the fun. You can also bring your own drinks or snacks if you like. There's a babysitting service as well if you want to drop the kids off and head to the nearby shopping centre.

Chateau des Ducs de Bourbon

Reviewed By skidame - cardiff

Looks lovely from the outside but was closed despite opening times board indicating it should be open. Steps up to it clearly used as a pissoire as they stunk. Lots of empty beer bottles around and quite a few questionable characters hanging around the terraces.
