Montanita Spanish School - Day Classes

Reviewed By yusufventures - Manchester, United Kingdom

To kick start my trip around South and Central America I decided to join a Spanish school, due to my complete lack of Spanish ability, that also had options for surfing and I stumbled upon Montanita Spanish school. I spent a total of 4 weeks at the Montanita Spanish school along with the accommodation at the nearby Cabanas and I very much enjoyed my time there. The classes are split between morning grammar classes and afternoon practical classes. I opted to join the group classes which I enjoyed particularly when it came to the practical lessons in the afternoon and the Spanish games that were played. The teachers were very friendly and knowledgable and I liked the fact that they stuck to giving explanations in Spanish in order to immerse you in the language. The level of grammar taught was quite intensive and the notes I took will surely help me as I continue to learn on my own. The school itself has a nice relaxed vibe to it. They offer drinking water, coffee, tea and even bread and juice during the morning lessons. The classes on the roof are particularly nice as they offer a great view of Montanita. There are also many activities to keep you occupied outside of school hours. I of course took part in surfing which was generally in between classes or first thing in the morning daily and a few lessons of Salsa which can be done any weekday evening provided you have at least 2 people interested. There were also social activities such as BBQ's, Surf trips, beach cleaning, welcome dinners and cultural festival days. I took part in as many as I could and had a great time at each one. The interns and staff were great engaging with me often and just generally being fun to be around. I would gladly go back in the future and one thing I would do differently would perhaps be to live with a host family so that I am practicing Spanish throughout the day, I admittedly got a bit too comfortable speaking English during the evenings. All in all it is a great spot to learn Spanish, surfing and to just generally have a great time.

I attended the Yoga Montanita teacher training and was blown away by the amazing yoga studio, awesome accomodation and all the beautiful and lovely staff at Casa Del Sol. The studio/hotel is located in the perfect spot within beautiful Montanita, next to the beach and walking distance from the town, but far enough so you get lots of peace and quiet. The team are all wonderful humans and really made everyone feel welcome and comfortable for the month. The head teachers Cheryl, Tamara, Jackson, Laura and Daniela are a wealth of yoga knowledge and really made the experience wonderful. Highly recommend you visit Yoga Montanita when in Equador.

Because we sadly speak only a little Spanish we wanted a private transfer from GYE (Guayaquil airport) to our accommodation in Ayampe on a Friday afternoon late December. We contacted Montañisol via email to ask whether it was possible and what the cost would be. Arturo got back to me very quickly to offer collection at the arrivals hall at a price that was reasonable considering the situation and distance from Ayampe. Obviously it was not cheap but did save a great deal of waiting around and stress after a big day of travelling to Guayaquil. Arturo was always quick to respond to emails and as arranged, the very nice driver was waiting for us with our name on a sign when we exited the arrivals hall. It was all very well organised and straightforward and I have no hesitation in recommending Montañisol for a private transfer. It was a very hot afternoon, the car had seen some kilometres, there was no airconditioning but the driver was excellent and professional.

Cascadas de Dos Mangas

Reviewed By SterreA2

We had a great and exciting hike to the dos mangas waterfall trough the jungle-like forest. Our guide pointed out a lot of beautiful and special trees, flowers, birds and other animals. In 4 different spots we saw monkeys and we even saw a tucan bird. Our guide was great and even though we speak very basic Spanish and he didn't speak English, we understood each other. We booked our tour guide in the town of Dos Mangas instead of down in Montañita and this saved us $30. Just take a cab to Dos Mangas and arrange the rest ar the park entrance. Make sure to bring repellent, water and some food (its a 4 hour hike, mostly flat). Great hike!

We love the smaller crowds during the low season and actually love the cloudy/cooler weather of winter here in Ecuador. No matter what the weather or season is, there is always a beautiful shot of the beach. Definitely swing by during low tides and get a fascinating look at the life hidden in the tidepools!
