Yudal Mountain

A walk up to the two peaks of Yudal Mountain is a rewarding experience. It only takes around an hour to get up to the tallest peak and each turn gives you better and better views. There are lots of places to stop, rest, take photos and even picnic if it takes your fancy! Some of the paths are very steep or the steps may be small so make sure you wear trainers or comfy shoes. We really enjoyed using the opportunity to get our bearings in Mokpo as it is our new home. I know well will climb Yudal many more times yet!

Korean National Maritime Museum

This museum is located next to Mokpo harbour, allowing visitors a comparative perspective on Korean watercraft. Ancient vessels rest just a short distance away from their modern counterparts, giving tourists an idea of what the ships exhibited in the museum might have been used for in daily life. Not much in the way of English descriptions, with many of the captions available only in Korean. However, a guide was on hand to explain each of the exhibits when I visited. The great views of the adjacent harbour were definitely a plus!

Mokpo Bridge

If you are travelling to Mokpo, and you enjoy photography, you will not be disappointed. Of the numerous sites to capture images of in Mokpo, taking a picture of the Mokpo Bridge is certainly a highlight. The bridge is an architectural marvel, and is especially nice to photograph as the sun is setting and within an hour after sunset when the bridge lights start to come on. Be sure to bring your tripod!
The are a number of great access points near the beach in Mokpo on Haeyangdaehak-ro. This is the road that the Marine University is on.
The image I took is within an hour of sunset and I was positioned on a concrete boardwalk that juts out into the water beside the beach....
This area is accessible by bus, by car, or by taxi, and is a beautiful place to just walk as the sun is setting, while the ships are sounding their horns.......very peaceful.....enjoy!

Mokpo Modern History Museum

Reviewed By Chris S - Toronto, Canada

This small museum near Yudalsan is worth visiting. It provides visitors with a photographic history of South Korea during the 20th century. Many of the photos focus on Mokpo and Jeollanam-do and provide a fascinating glimpse into the history of the region. Be warned, this museum isn’t for the faint of heart. Many of their photos deal with the worst elements of the Japanese occupation of Korea.

Housed in the former Japanese consulate this museum has interesting displays about the history of Mokpo and the building. It's a good place to start your visit to Mokpo as it covers the history of some other attractions and the view from the Gardens give a good overview of the town.
Make sure to visit the former WWII bomb shelters at the rear of the building.

Traveling back in time, we will find dinosaurs skeletons at natural size and a lot of information about the existence of these big animals in a beautiful scenario and modern installations. This museum has a lot of Exhibitions about the nature of korea and it is a great educational experience that I recommend for the whole family. Because many exhiitions are in korean, i strongly recommend to rent audio phones with english guided tour, available at the front desk in the museum. The acces price is cheap (4 Us $ or less for adult) and easy to reach by bus.

Yudalsan Sculpture Park

Reviewed By John V - Bognor Regis, United Kingdom

Don't let the 'International' in the name fool you, - only six of the park's dozens of sculptures are from non-Koreans. Originally opened in November 1982, this was the first outdoor park for sculptures in Korea. The 48,000 square-meter park originally displayed sculptures leased from the Korea Sculpture Park Society. When the lease expired, however, the sculptures were removed. In August 2008, the park reopened with a new set of sculptures representing the theme Nature, Culture, and Sculpture. It's a nice variety of art, from completely abstract to some with a more understandable meaning.
