This Castle was bought by Nicolas Appert(1749-1841). He was a French inventor, was the first person to perfect a method of preserving food in sealed containers ("appertisation"). Deeply concerned by the problem of food wastage, he established a factory in Massy and carried out some initial experiments. It currently accommodates the offices of the town council's Cultural Affairs Department.
