This is a nicely restored old opera house that nearly was destroyed instead of restored a few years ago------it is ashamed how some communities will destroy their heritage. My only regret is that there are not many Performances that you can actually attend here. It is well worth your time to tour it

This building is very pretty. It was built in the late 1800s, which seems pretty old based on how European it looks. My tour guide was good. His English was decent, but he spoke softly. But at R$10, it was definitely worth the entry fee.

The Anavilhanas is an amazing natural wonder - a network of Islands that are 'flooded forests' every year in the wet season, before becoming actual Islands in the dry season. The Rio Negro is many kilometres wide in this section and when we went (early August), there were still wide waterways between patches of Forests although I was told that the water level drops quickly until October.
Our trip into the Anavilhanas was by boat and a little bit of trekking into the forest. Because it was during the late morning, there was little wildlife to see except the occasional bird. The acidic Rio Negro is not that hospitable to life so there are few fish around and consequently few other predators. We stopped by at the park rangers lodge and a village on the riverbank called Santo Antonio which I think are common stops on a trip to the Anavilhanas.
If you want to see more than foliage and water, it may be worth paying more for a longer multi-day tour into the archipelago. Also remember that the rainforest here is not typical Amazon basin rainforest because of the fact that it is flooded for some of the year. We stayed in Novo Airao for our trip

Manaus had its first financial climax during the rubber export boom.
During this period, Manaus became the Paris of the jungle. An amazing, well preserved and safe example is the area around the Amazon Theater (Opera House). There is a complex of historical buildings, and some of them became either cutural spaces or museums.
During the day is very crowded with locals and tourists. Good for regular tours.
At night, the main street "Eduardo Ribeiro" is quite safe, with some good bars and restaurants. It a good place to relax and wlk around. Talking to locals is a little hard (but you must try), but you´ll find many tourist relaxing, eating a pizza (SPLASH pizza place), so you can talk, share experiences and good tips.

Took a tour from a cruise ship and over 30 people in the party which should have been split into two groups. As a result it was difficult to always be near the guide when he was giving information. Guide was knowledgeable and spoke good...MoreWanderers. We were sad that his tour was not so good. Possibly lacked organization to make an anticipated schedule so that our team could organize to better reserve its group. Anyway we believe that getting to know the Amazon was good for you. Thank you!

Here you can have an amazing lesson to learn a lot about how everything was back on the robber plantation period.
Be ready to walk and be amazed by all the great things the tour guide will share with you.
It is an outdoor museum.
Make sure you stay here for about one hour.
You need to take a boat to get here. The boat trip is about 25 minutes.
If you need help on your way out dont worry! The tour guide will help you by calling a boat just for you whenever you wanna leave.

We spent some time at the botanical garden right after leaving Juma Lodge so it was a little anticlimactic but if you don't have time to go to a lodge, definitely visit but bring bug spray--there were more mosquitoes than we saw/felt anywhere else. Great variety of trees and some animals including two tanks of manatees. They have a small hut that sells handmade jewelry, etc. We bought some nice small baskets that a woman was making out of palm fronds.

The arena was built for FIFA World Cup, but there is no regional league, so no regular games. No tour available, so if you want to take pictures, only from the outside.

Quick stop at the Shopping Center before the shops opened. The food court and trendy eatiers were open. Delicious local foods, plus the typical American spots (Bob's Burgers) Good for a quick bite.
