Lyttelton Farmers Market

Reviewed By Gavin H

We had just had breakfast at a nearby cafe and thought we should stroll down the farmers market.
We were really surprised at the awesome produce and products - such great variety, quality and generally good prices.
The atmosphere was very friendly. The only issue was the lack if parking and challenge of hilly access for the disabled (our son was on crutches).
Definitely worth a visit.

Margaret Mahy Family Playground

Reviewed By F T - London

A massive well-designed outdoor playground with a multitude of climbing activities as well as water activities which are super popular in the summer. Long flying fox and there is stuff to do for those who have pre-schoolers as well as primary school aged children. I think it's not as appealing to those 11 and above. Adults supervising are well catered for, plenty of Seating, although if going on a really sunny day bring a hat ... it gets hot there. There are food / coffee / ice cream trucks and toilets all on site. Parking is pretty easy too.

Ohinetahi Garden

Reviewed By Steve H - Sydney, Australia

If you were inspired by Christchurch Botanic Gardens, then this one is definitely for you! An enjoyable scenic drive from Christchurch via Victoria Park brings you to delightful Governors Bay (good spot for lunch!) then on to Ohinetahi Garden where you can delight in the wonders of many garden rooms; the huge range of plants, trees and shrubs; the stream and its bridges; the garden lookout; continually changing vistas; beautiful plays of light and colour; the many statues and surprising garden sculptures; and the art gallery. The property is on a hillside which adds to its interest, but not so much that it is tiring to walk around. (Note: We had a little difficulty locating the garden: it is between Church Lane and Allandale Lane - showing as number 31 on Google Maps). There is a small cover charge for entry, but then the Gardens are privately owned and maintained. The property is a sheer delight, and a definitely a benchmark against which other Gardens may be compared. Returning to Christchurch via Littelton is another scenic drive with other points of interest on the way.

Lyttelton Harbour

Reviewed By Kumar S

The harbour front was affected by the earthquakes. The drive to the harbour gave us magnificent vistas of the beautiful bays and ocean front with houses and townships rising up the mountainside. Lyttelton Harbour city itself was quaint and certainly worth a visit. If going via winding roads is not your cup of tea, then use the harbour tunnel from Christchurch CBD.

Christchurch Botanic Gardens

At the heart of Christchurch's reputation as the Garden City, the Gardens are a place of ever-changing beauty. Showcasing flora and fauna of New Zealand and other parts of the world, the Gardens feature one of the finest collections of exotic and local plants in New Zealand. With more than 1.1 Million visitors each year the Botanic Gardens are one of the Christchurch's most popular and well-loved attractions.

We took the Caterpillar tour and the guide was marvellous. His knowledge of the Gardens and its history was top notch. The Gardens were started soon after Christchurch’s settlement and the majority of the trees planted at that time, being brought in as seedlings from other parts of the world. The trees are brilliant specimens as the have an almost whole year growth cycle. The plants from far and wide are equally brilliant. There are glasshouses and a huge rose garden to wander around.

Cruise ship day tours Providing small group day tours for Cruise Ship passengers is our speciality. We have two special day tours designed to accommodate your one day visit to Christchurch, New Zealand. Choose from "The Best of Christchurch" and "Akaroa and the Bays" tours.

Our ship docked at Akaroa, so we decided to book "The Best of Christchurch" tour with the company. Our tour guide-Linda was wonderful. We are so glad we booked this tour. Many people from the ship just stayed in Akaroa, and I think they missed a lot of beautiful scenery that we had a chance to see on the way from Akaroa to Christchurch. The scenic views were breathtaking. Christchurch itself was a nice city before the earthquake, but it will take some time to restore it to it's former charm. Linda was very knowledgeable and informative. Thanks a lot for a great day!

Decided to include the trip on the Tug in the school holiday activities - kids loved it! they were able to go up onto the bridge and have a look around with the Captain - check out below decks to see the sleeping quarters and the boiler room. My daughter even go the chance to stoke the fires.
Trip lasted 90mins and you get an informative commentary about the Lyttelton harbour - staff are enthusiasts and are really friendly - Recommended if you are in Lyttelton on a Sunday but check their website to see if they are running first generally from Christmas to May.
Parking can be a pain so get their early - tickets are available 1 hour before sailing (Tug leaves at 14:30)

We are an historical volunteer-run museum in the port town of Lyttelton. We lost our building in the Christchurch earthquakes of 2010/2011. But we saved most of the collection, which is now in safe storage as we advance plans to build a new museum in the heart of the community. We have secured a site in Lyttelton's main street and hope to re-open in 2020. Visitors will then once again be able to engage in the many stories of Lyttelton Harbour/Whakaraupo.
