We had a beautiful walk in Epping Forrest and enjoyed many varied tracks to the pretty lake. Spotted some shy wild squirrels and all around was lovely greenery in very peaceful surrounds. Lots of photo opportunities and birdlife on the lake. Plenty of carparks and some places to get a snack. Very enjoyable!

High Beach Church

The Church of the Holy Innocents was built in 1873, designed by Sir Arthur Blomfield in Victorian Gothic style and is situate in the heart of Epping Forest. It is open every Sunday afternoon between 2.00 and 5.00 pm from the beginning of May to the end of September for visitors to look around and enjoy home-made cake and light refreshments in its tranquil churchyard. Visitors are encouraged to ascend the church tower to learn how to ring the carillon or to sit inside the church and listen to the Father Willis organ being played. On the altar cloth in the left hand chapel you can see the cattle brand marks for the local area depicted on the altar cloth and the carpet leading up to the altar shows the two varient spellings of High Beach/Beech.

This beautiful old church is set in the idyllic Epping Forest, The surroundings are picturesque all year round with frosty silvery branches in the winter, bright green shoots in the spring, green leaves and ferns in the summer and browns, yellow and gold leaves in the autumn.
Flowers can be found in the graveyard for most of the year ad the daffodils and bluebells are a sight for sore eyes. You can stop on the narrow forest road right next to the church and checking out some of the names and ages on the gravestones is interesting.
If in the area, or if you live nearby its well worth a visit, preferably on a sunny day.

An absolutely outstanding experience - “one of the best days ever” to quote my seven-year old son. Emily, Elliot and Luke took us on a wonderful woodland walk with a beautiful barn owl named Dusk. It was brilliant to have Dusk flying around us and perching on our gloves for food and a lift as we went about the walk. All of the staff were extremely knowledgeable about all the birds, patiently fielding all sorts of inquisitive questions and enthusiastically passing on a never ending supply of interesting facts. I think what impressed us most though was the genuine bond between the birds and the staff and it was a joy to watch the interactions between them. We’ll definitely be back for more and looking forward to the next experience.

This former childhood home of William Morris is now a small museum telling the story of him, his family and colleagues. This provides the wider context of the Arts and Crafts Movement, along with other social and arts groups who were active at the same time, while also including some fascinating examples of the Morris family's individual skills. My visit was rather rushed so I plan to return when I can take my time looking around (and enjoying something to eat in the attractive cafe).
Good points:
+ Exhibits and displays provide a useful historical context for William Morris's work
+ Well selected variety of exhibits
+ Attractive grounds in the surrounding park and an appealing cafe
Not so good points:
- A little out of the way (but well worth the trip)
