Once you have found your way, through the one way streets to the Ferry in Argostoli, you are on your way pretty quickly over to the other side, Lixouri. The Ferries run more often in peak season often every half an hour so if you miss one not too long to wait in a bar over the road or in the ferry shelter. Less than 10 euros each way for a car and 2 passengers and only takes 20mins and quick to disembarque the vehicles. Stops running about 10.30/11pm I think so if you take a late flight, or get delayed, you would have to drive around the long way. Very efficient service. Buy your tickets on board - the man comes around to see you. Easy when you know how!

Kipoureon Monastery

Mone Kepouraion (also called kepouria Monastery is an incredibly scenic monastery literally hanging from a cliff in the western shore of the Palliki peninsula. It overlooks the Ionian sea and houses important religious artifacts, icons and a wood carved temple.

Popped in on our way up west coast from Lixouri, our ultimate destination being Petani, Myrtos and then Fixardo
The coast road and views are spectacular
The monastery has perched on the cliff edge since 1750 and is home to only 2 Greek orthodox monks
The place is quite eerie and a little sad - it patently took a real beating in the recent earthquake (we were subjected to a 3.8 richter rumble on our 2nd night on the island which was pretty scarey - the one which has battered quite a few buildings on the island in January was almost twice that)
I read a review where someone said the monastery was a wasted visit as the prominentry where you could sit to watch the sunset had partially slipped into the sea
They're kinda missing the point
The small guilded church is heart stopping as is the dedication of the two chaps who live there (I ain't the least bit religious either)
Worth 20 minutes of your life surely?

We were thinking how to spent our time, go to the caves or to the lighthouse.
We opted to go to the lighthouse. It is fairly easy to get there by following the road signs, drive 2-3km of good conditioned earth-road and you are there.
We stayed for the sunset, which is wonderful. It is obstructed and the view is marvelous.
Go if you like photography and doing things that most tourists do not do!!
