Cog Hill Golf & Country Club

This course hosts the PGA's Western Open every year.

Reviewed By Taylor B - Chicago, Illinois

While covering the PGA tour for the Chicago Daily News and Chicago Sun-Times in the 1970s, I learned first-hand that professional golfers were in agreement that the Chicago area boasted more outstanding golf courses than any other region of the country. One of the best is Cog Hill Golf and Country Club, widely recognized as one of the finest public layouts in the nation. Located at 12294 Archer Avenue in southwest suburban Lemont, 30 miles from Chicago. It hosted the Western Open 16 times and the BMW tournament in 2009 and 2011. For amateur golfers, it is the ultimate test. In 1926, three Coghill brothers bough a farm on the east side of Lemont to build a golf course. They build a second course in 1929. In 1951, Joe Jemsek bought Cog Hill. He added a third course in 1963 and a fourth, internationally famed Dubsdread, a par-71, 7,554-yard layout, in 1964. The Western Golf Association awarded its Western Open to Cog Hill in 1991. Tiger Woods, who won the Western Open five times, shot a course record 62 on Dubsdread in 1992. Dubsdread has been singled out as one of the nation's top 100 public courses and one of America's 75 toughest courses by Golf Digest magazine. Dubsdread's signature hole is the 16th, a par-4, 456-yarder that is lined by trees on both sides of the fairway and doglegs left around a ravine. Bunkers challenge long hitters 300 yards off the tee and a pair of bunkers pinch the front of the green. Go left of the putting surface likely will result in a lost ball. So what do you do? Try to cut the corner? Lay up, then go for the right side of the green? Cross your fingers and pray for the best? Whatever happens, you can still enjoy a great meal in the clubhouse. Today, Cog Hill is an entertaining mecca that also hosts corporate dinners, weddings and other social events. It can take the edge off your golf game--and a triple bogey on the 16th.

Such a fun experience and great value to visit the Tivoli. The price is half of the traditional theaters...as are the refreshments (and drinks and popcorn have free refills). The seats are comfortable, the screen is exceptionally large, and the venue itself has so much to admire and holds a lot of people. There is also an organ player if you go on Friday or Saturday nights. Hands down, our favorite movie theater!!

Same mass market tween focused stores you'll find at every mall in America. The parking is good, there is one anchor department store but it's a small Macy's and may be closing soon. The restaurants seem to be pretty good. I've been twice during the week at rush hour and the place was basically deserted at 6:00 p.m.

This is my absolute favorite place in the Chicago area to run. 9.5 miles of crushed gravel, feels great on the legs compared to usual paved trails. Some rolling hills and plenty of trees. Path is super wide and easily accommodates runners, bikers, and hikers without any problems. New updates include new mile marker and trail maps, much easier follow trail and know exactly where you are.

Bengtson's Pumpkin Farm

Bengtson Pumpkin Farm is the premier fall festival and Pumpkin Patch in the Chicagoland area. Established in 1980 the Bengtson family was selling their pumpkin crop to the public from the family farm. Over the past 37 years the farm has come to include one of a kind attractions that have families returning year after year. Our farm has food options that are most easily described as award winning, not your typical festival food. Unlike many other farms and festivals these days Bengtson's admission includes unlimited access to all the rides and activities. One low price for an entire day of fun. There are many options when it comes to pumpkin patches but Bengtson's is the only choice. Our farm is the highest rated and most reviewed farm you will find. The largest corn box play area anywhere, the all new Cow Spin Coaster, all paved walkways so even the newest members of the family can enjoy the farm from the stroller. Bengtson Pumpkin Farm is an experience like no other.

This place is one stop if you have children and need pumpkins. They had carnival rides, food, music, hayrides, even pig races. My grandson loved this corn pit, its like a big sandbox only filling with corn kernels. He was doing cannonballs and snow angels. They could use more changing stations for babies, but it’s all outside so just wing it. On the way out we got some donuts, pumpkins and kettle corn. Fun for the whole family. Weekend are crowded, just a FYI.

Great brewery in the south suburbs. They have a full calendar of events with a handful of food trucks every month. If there isn't a food truck on the schedule don't fret!!! They have a binder with menus from local establishments that deliver. Great cozy atmosphere. Staff is friendly. Beer is great. Try the Full Lemonty. You won't be disappointed.

The atmosphere was great. It is an industrial type feel as the bar is actually inside of a warehouse. For a craft beer "The Craven" was actually in my opinion the best on the menu. If you don't want to sit in the warehouse portion they built a glassed in section that is heated and air conditioned with tables. The staff was knowledgeable about the beer and very friendly. They offer free games and darts to play. They offer free wifi and the best part is they encourage you to bring your own food. When we went they had a food truck outside. This is one of the best breweries I have been to and they really do it right!
