Bennett Spring State Park

The valley that cradles Bennett Spring has created a place of peace and recreation that has welcomed generations of enthusiastic anglers. Bennett Spring State Park is one of Missouri’s earliest state parks and continues today to attract fishermen and nature lovers seeking to make new memories. More than 100 million gallons of clear, cool water gush from Bennett Spring each day and form a spring branch stocked daily with rainbow trout waiting for lucky fishermen. Fishing may be the main draw but the park also offers many other amenities such as a dining lodge, campgrounds, cabins and hiking trails. Whether you are a traditional fishing enthusiast or someone seeking a place to relax and refresh, Bennett Spring State Park has what you need to make every trip one to remember.

Returning home from Branson, we stopped at Bennett Spring one of Missouri’s State Parks, which we learned had also been a CCC camp. Fishermen were everywhere fishing for and catching trout. A man proudly lifted to show me his stringer of two beautiful trout that he had caught. We dined at their Lodge. One offering was soup and salad which my husband had. I ordered a vegetarian omelette which came with a side of hash browns, toast, and a slice of an orange. Both brunches were delicious. The park offers a very nice gift store and a huge camping area.

Rt. 66 Museum

We had no difficulty in locating this attraction after having lunch at Applebee's down the road. I have read the reviews and the travellers who could not locate this museum, even with GPS has left me a little mystified. We managed to travel all the way from O'Hare, through Chicago for the entire length of Route 66 to Santa Monica without a Sat/Nav GPS aid. Has everyone lost the art of map reading?

Yes this museum was small, set within the local library, but to me that was all part of the charm and appeal. I especially enjoyed the exhibits of an old style motel room, diner and gas station. We enjoyed a good time here and thought it added to our Route 66 experience.

I would certainly recommend a visit if you have the time. It is free entrance but you can leave donations for the upkeep of the museum.

Can't believe this isn't on here already ! I love this antique mall. Large enough to spend hours in. Good mix of different items. Not heavy on glassware or region specific collectibles. There are a few booths with newer items, candles, crafts etc but they were not intrusive and far and few between, We enjoyed looking around and it is quite large. Easy access from highway.

Bonus, you can enter the attached cheese shop ( sadly it was closed when we went ) or Russell Stover candies from inside the mall. We got a honking 3LB of candy from the "oops" section for 9.99 . All were still fresh and tasted great, some we didnt know why they in there and others a little squished. Everytime we looked at a candy box for more than 10 seconds someone popped up and asked us if we wanted a sample of what we were looking at.

I will add some photos as soon as the option is available.

Lebanon I-44 speedway

We went to the Lebanon Mo I-44 race track for the our town your town celebration. They have a regular racing season but this a special yearly event that we attended. It was the second year for this and it was fantastic, I look forward to seeing how it grows over the years. They let everyone in for $10 a car load which is a great bargain. They had car races, FMX (free style motocross) exhibit sponsored by Monster, fireworks, and lots of venders. The track is well maintained and clean. They have a wild side for people who want to do tailgate parties and that was pretty neat. They also have a large bleacher side with backs on them so that it doesn't kill your back sitting there watching the races. The bathrooms were large with plenty of stalls. We got snacks and drinks for four people and it was only $26, I thought that was reasonable. The racing and FMX were awesome and I can't wait till next year to see it all again. I wish we lived closer because we would be going to the races on a regular basis.

Ozark Hills Theater

Reviewed By DustinHolmes

If you are expecting a well rehearsed production show like you get in Branson you will be disappointed.
This is more of a constantly changing community theater made up of musicians who work regular jobs and do this in their spare time. For the most part the band stays the same, but every couple songs there is a new singer. This is going to range from children to seasoned adults. Some of the singers may perform their regularly and others just on occasion.
The music ranges from country, bluegrass, and gospel and from the old to the new. Whatever song they feel like performing at the time or maybe something someone has requested them to play.
A lot of the audience members are regulars since the music and performers are always varying. During intermission the performers will mingle with the audience. It's very relaxed and casual they may see someone they know and pull them up on stage to do a couple songs with them. The theaters website says they have open auditions after each show on Saturdays if someone would like to be a guest performer. During intermission one of the band members asked if I was a musician.
They have a small snack bar which offers soda, candy and popcorn. When I was there popcorn was only $1.00, which is awesome they aren't charging movie theater prices!
The show lasts about two and half hours. The first half of the show is about an hour long, a 30 minute intermission and then the second half of the show which is about an hour long.

However, the VF Factory outlet is still there and has a lot of special buys for all sizes and everything from jeans, night clothes, swim wear, under garments, shirts, jackets, etc. There is also a nice Dress Barn, and a Kitchen Collection and a few other stores. You can also grab a bite to eat. If you drive a little further down the road you will also find a Russell Stovers outlet! YUM!
