Playa de Las Canteras

Pleasingly clean despite its city location, if you do not feel uncomfortable to sunbathe close to others and have close to restaurants, cafes, and more this is a nice alternative for the sun worshiper.A paradise for charter tourists, lined with relatively ugly buildings without major architectural beauty.

we didn't get the best of this area but I think that was as we went during the day . It consists of a number of narrow streets with numerous shops / bars and restaurants . Which I think would have a much better vibe at night . Las palmas is a busy working port town which also caters for cruise ships visiting gran canaria so there is a real mix . This area has the museums / Cathedral etc which are nice without being outstanding ..

Jardin Botanico Viera & Clavijo

This unique garden erected on the side of a ravine has examples of every kind of vegetation found on the Canaries.

Reviewed By Richard_Harpum - Doncaster, United Kingdom

During a two-week holiday in Gran Canaria, my wife and I visited the Jardin Botanico Canario Viera y Clavijo near Las Palmas. There are several entrances and we parked at the first one we came to (using out satnav). This may have been a mistake, as it led to a car park at the top of the Gardens, necessitating a walk down the side of the steep canyon into the main garden at the bottom (and hence a walk back up again later). On our departure, we saw more signs pointing downhill, leading to other car parks at the bottom of the canyon.
To our surprise entry is free, which makes this a really good deal considering how extensive and good these Gardens are. There is a huge variety of plants, from palms to cactus to the famous Dragon trees (Drago). There are numerous paths that zig-zag around the Gardens and it is worth getting a map off the Internet before you visit, so that you can get the full benefit of all the various areas of the Gardens. Allow a couple of hours to look around.
Definitely worth a visit.

Caldera de Bandama

Reviewed By Richard_Harpum - Doncaster, United Kingdom

During a two-week holiday in Gran Canaria, my wife and I decided to hike around the rim of the Caldera Bandama. This is the largest remaining volcanic crater in Gran Canaria. The rim reaches 569 m (1,867 ft) above sea level at the highest point (Pico de Bandama) and is about 1km wide and about 200 m (700 ft) deep.
Unlike the south of the island, the area is lush and green and there are all sorts of beautiful plants, some of them planted but many growing wild.
There is a trail around the entire rim and another to the bottom of the crater. Unless you are feeling very energetic, be careful that you don’t take the wrong turning and end up on the trail to the bottom.
Nevertheless, the rim trail is quite challenging with some very steep sections. So, it is not suitable for people who are not moderately fit. If you do make the trip, it is worth the effort. There are stunning views of the surrounding area, Las Palmas and the coast, as well as the crater itself.
Allow about 90 minutes for an enjoyable hike.

This large blue building looks impressive from the outside, unlike a museum, as it's very modern. At the entrance is the front half of an old aircraft, obviously a past Canarian airways. As always,, you need plenty of time to look around such places, so as the sun was shining, it won! Will save it for a cloudy day, as sure it looked interesting.

This is a fantastic museum and art gallery set in a typical Canarian building and courtyard where there are regular Performances of music and dance. The information about Nestor and his art is avaialble in English. Entrance when we visited cost 50 cents and included an English leaflet. There is also a very helpful Tourist Information centre in another of the buildings on the courtyard.

Doramas Park

I'm so glad that I put in the effort to find this park during my recent vacation.
It is very well kept, there were staff going around tidying up during my visit.
Not a huge park by normal standards, but nonetheless well worth a visit.
Plenty of grass, trees, palm trees, cacti, flowers, nice pathways, Seating, a kids play area, and an abundance of water features.
I found this a lovely place in which to relax, with some shaded spots, and birds chirping away in the trees.
Pleasantly surprised and it exceeded my expectations.
Would definitely recommend a visit if you are in the vicinity.
