Alpe d'Huez Grand Domaine Ski

Reviewed By David Y

Alpe D’Huez is one of the best ski areas I’ve ever visited. Great variety of slopes, superbly set up for children and beginners and excellent lift/gondola infrastructure to take keener skiersreight to the heights of Pic Blanchard and the thrills of Le Tunnel and La Sarenne.
As so often, however, the developers and town planners became greedy and the resort itself is sprawling and ugly, with little thought having been paid to atmosphere and ambience. There is no real centre to this place, just a collection of houses, hotels, shops and apartments which have been randomly dropped on to the lovely hills.
Everything works. All the amenities are here. Traveling to and from the place is easy. Residents are very friendly. I just wish they’d taken some of the care that went into the planning of the superb modern church of Notre Dame des Neiges, which is well worth a visit.

2G Sports

Our family stayed in Chalet Lingayoni and we hired ski gear for the kids from 2G sports. I needed some bindings fitted in the evening of arrival in the resort which were fitted perfectly and at a reasonable price. Fitting of boots for the children was good and they had no issues with any of the equipment hired during the week. We were able to store our equipment (including non-hired gear) at the shop overnight which was really convenient. In the mornings, our boots were ready for us in the heated boot warmer rack so were lovely and toasty!
Anyone hiring in Oz would definitely be recommended to go to 2G sports - we will be using them again next year without hesitation!

George works in another BASS resort so perhaps you would like to post there as each BASS resort has its own page (this one is BASS Les 2 Alpes).

Staying in Bourg for two weeks provided us with a real french village experience. There are great markets on a saturday and lots of options in the village for provisions and eating out. My husband did a one week cycling tour with "More than 21 bends" which he loved and they (Helen and Phil) also managed our accomodation in a well equipped one bedroom apartment right in the village. Our landlady Nicole was delightful, even bringing us bowls of cherries from their tree. I was able to do some yoga with a local instructor who spoke english. There are lots of great places to visit within an hour of the village, be sure to see the Chateau at Vizille and the nearby lakes. It is truly a beautiful region, the locals are very welcoming of tourists and particularly cyclists. Phil and Helen know the region well and are very helpful.

Integral Rafting

We went white water rafting as a family and had an incredible time. The whole family where talking about it for days. The white water rafting was an incredible experience, there were exhilarating rapids where the raft tosses and turns and also when you have to glide down the river in the safety position as well as beautiful scenery and some calm moments when you just drift down the river. If you choose to do this then you've made a very good decision !

If you want to leave your ski's, boots, helmet etc at the foot of the DMC after each days skiing (rather than carry all this clobber onto the lobster pot lifts or if ski in - ski out not possible), lockers for hire here are great value for money (3 euro's per day) & friendly service.

A large group of us from very experienced to novice skiers based ourselves here. For me as a very inexperienced skier there were plenty of runs to keep me going and maintain my confidence. For the black runners there was just about enough challenge for the week. We stayed further down the valley and got the free bus service each morning to the gondolas. We visited late in the season and much of the resort was closing down or had limited opening hours but there were plenty of places for lunch and coffee on the slopes and it was easy to get across tp Alpe d'Huez

This is a great ski resort whether you are a beginner or an experienced skier.
You will love the Mountains, the views, the experience on the top of Glacier.
I recommend checking out all the green and blue piste the first days - Jandri, Fee, Thuit, Signal (Definitely), Venosce, and then the red and black piste.
I recommend you drink a lot of water, and spend at least two hours daily on the glacier (in March). Above 3200m breathing there.
Food is a bit expensive there so bring your own food.
Excellent domain for skiing and your ski-pass will include one day in Briancon or in Alpes D`Huez, so if you can manage with an auto or with a bus it will be good.
