The 55 km cruise down the Ord River was superb with seeing many crocs, birds, and sharing a wonderful afternoon tea of pumpkin scones, cup cakes and fresh fruit.

Emma Gorge

Reviewed By 188petere - Brisbane, Australia

Travelled out from Kununurra in our mobile home, along bitumen with a short distance of gravel (pretty rough & a couple of shallow water crossings) to reach the Emma Gorge campsite/restaurant.
First stop was to pay the fee to access the Gorge - reasonably priced.
The walk up the gorge was well signposted, relatively accessible, with a few boulders to clamber over. There were a number of walkers of limited fitness who handled the track ok.
At the end of the gorge, there was a beautiful cool waterpool being fed by both a picturesque waterfall & a natural spring (warm water). It was a great place to swim & cool down after the walk. There is a second pool below the main pool which was much quieter, but still looked lovely.
The Gorge also featured amenities incl a laundry, on site accom, a cafe/restaurant & souvenirs.
A great visit & very pleased we proceeded over the gravel.

Mirima National Park

Reviewed By MQ007b - Melbourne, Australia

The park costs $13 to enter for the day, using an automated payment parking meter. I imagine a lot of people don't pay because of the lack of ranger.
The four walks are all different; and accurately explained on the in-park signage. The longest walk runs parallel to the road for much of its length so you could potentially drive slowly and see the same scenery.
I would not say this is the same as the Bungles, other than it has some red rocks with some cyanobacteria, though nowhere near the appearance in the true Bungles. Nonetheless, it's very scenic and worth some time if you're in town.

Another family recommended Zebra Rock as a destination for our family to stay. Unfortunately we couldn’t take advantage of their relatively inexpensive camping facilities, however I convinced my family to turn off the highway near the NT/WA border and visit. We were not disappointed. Fifteen minutes off the highway, we arrived just as a tour of the small-scale mining operations was departing. The tour was informative and interesting. We learned that our tour fees were essentially ensuring the preservation of this unique mineral formation.
Afterwards we were given pieces of Zebra Stone to polish and keep. The reception area had a museum with Zebra Stone for sale. Outside were picnic tables carved from Zebra Stone.

Kelly's Knob Lookout

Reviewed By MQ007b - Melbourne, Australia

The steep road to the carpark is best experienced in a car though quite a few people were walking. The option to climb the last part is reportedly 1 hour return, according to the sign. The biggest challenge would be the darkness on the way down after sunset.
The rocks at the carpark are sufficient to see the sunset and offer you the chance to turn around and see the blazing red rocks behind you. Those who climb to the highest point are on top of those rocks so miss the view.

El Questro Wilderness Park

An eco-holiday destination, this million-acre park is located in the heart of the unspoiled Kimberley region.

Reviewed By Marcell1989 - Roosendaal, The Netherlands

The El Questro National Park is as touristic as it can get. It felt like a Disney park with an '4WD Outback-theme'. Nevertheless, the place is absolutely stunning and is definitely worth a visit.
It really depends on the audience whether or not they will enjoy El Questro. For myself, being a low-budget backpacker that was trying to watch every penny during my travels, this place was simply too expensive to stay loner than a day. On the other hand, there are plenty of families who'll stay here the entire week.
The views and the river-crossings are simply great. If you enjoy nature, this is a must-visit. If you stay only for a day, I would recommend the El Questro Hike. Other stops - Like Zebedee Springs and Emma Gorge are fun if you have more time on your hands.

Hoochery Distillery

Hoochery Distillery has opened for the 2017 season. Come out for tastings of our Award-winning rums or for our delicious home-made cakes. Better yet from May onwards until Mid-September come out and enjoy one of our yummy lunches while relaxing in our beer garden. We are well worth the drive (15km out of town along Weaber Plains Road)

Fantastic atmosphere in the tasting room, with very knowlegable staff that showed great pride in their product. Didn't take the distillery tour because we were there on a Sunday when the distillery wasn't operating. The tour was still operating so probably should have taken it. The tastings were great. Some of the finest rums I've tasted. The Ord River Rum cake was pretty awesome also. I consider the prices of the rums very good for such quality of the products. We were served by Spike's daughter who really looked after us. Morning tea of coffee and rum cake was so good that we went back for lunch. A really relaxing, casual meal sitting around a rum barrell table enjoying some wonderful barrumundi. Great day alround.

Parry Lagoons Nature Reserve

Reviewed By JGDynamo - Halifax Region, Canada

Knocking off as many nature parks during our time in Kununurra and Wyndham, we stopped in at Parry Lagoons Nature Preserve on our way up to Wyndham, and although it was a bit drier than I had anticipated, there were still thousands of birds to see, flying around, doodying from above and we were able to get a few good pictures of some birds we had never seen before. We will email them to my wife who is an avid birder and she can let us know what we saw. Nice drive through the park and lots of places to stop and admire nature up close like the Marglu Billabong. Oh and be sure to watch out for the crocs as there are a few laying in wait so mind your step.

This was the best collection of art I've seen in WA.
Interesting and unique pieces. The curators were helpful and informative. Some were related to the artists. We had a piece commissioned as two people wanted the same platter. This was arranged promptly and will be posted once finished.
Highly recommend.
