Another suggestion from out landlord Julie at Julie's apartments.
We spent the day at the beach and decided to have a drink before heading back for dinner.
The owners were super friendly and helpful with the drink menu and suggestions for the village and area.
It's looking acted right near the beach; great view while having a relaxer.

Cretaquarium - Thalassocosmos

Crete’s aquarium, Cretaquarium, opened in December 2005. Belonging to a large European family of Aquariums, the Cretaquarium offers its visitors the unique chance to plunge into the great marine world of the Mediterranean. From the big hunter sharks to the tiny seahorses, the sensational jellyfish, the diversity of marine life is set off against underwater Cretan seascapes such as the rock formations at Matala( South Crete)and the sea bed at Vai(North East Crete).

As Aquariums go this wasn't the most expensive, there were several large tanks and a lot of smaller ones. There was information about human impact on the seas. There was not the variety I would have expected but there was some redevelopment going on. Surprisingly no shop, though there is a restaurant. Overall we enjoyed it

The Bronze - Kelesis Yannis

Our workshop is located in the industrial, artistic park of Anopolis, in kokkini Hani area to Hersonisos municipality.Since 1964 we manufacture bronze statues and other artifacts, using the method of smelting, by the exact same way that the Minoans were producing their artifacts, which we admire nowadays in museums all over the world. The art of sculpture together with the art of smelting metal are the basic stages of our work, which you can see during your visit in our workshop. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to be guided to all areas of our workshop and of course to our exhibition hall, should you wish to buy your souvenirs at workshop prices or give us any special order! We are looking forward to meeting you in person, offering you some raki and showing the Cretan hospitality! And, free wifi for our visitors!

We went to Yanis' workshop in october, as my boyfriend is keen on metal casting. as it was closed when we arrived we tried to text him and he answered very quickly to tell us when we could meet later in the day. When we meet, it was great, Yanis is very friendly and generous, he likes taliking about his job and sharing his passion. As we went during low season and we were alone in the workshop, my boyfriend could even try melting a bronze piece !
Thank you again Yanis and I hope we'll meet again !

Jeefsafari Experience - Roger Rambo

I booked the trip by emailing through the website.
They got back to me really quickly and gave me all the information I needed.
On the morning of the trip we were picked up from our hotel on time.
We were a party of three and decided to drive which was so much fun and I definitely recommend.
Throughout the trip we stopped off at two village cafés, one in the morning and one in the afternoon and mixed with the locals.
At lunchtime we stopped at a taverna in a small village.
It was lovely and included in the price, drinks too.
You could have rotisserie chicken or pork with greek salad and bread.
Fruit and raki to finish, I can honestly say it was divine and the owners so friendly.
Roger and his team knew a wealth of knowledge and were really hospitable.
A brilliant day out but be prepared to get very dusty and dirty!

Koronekes Traditional Olive Oil Mill

Koronekes is a family business. We make extra virgin olive oils, from Koroneiki cultivar olive trees, in our own traditional olive mill. Learn about organic biodynamic farming and olive oil production. What is an extra virgin olive oil? What is a first cold pressed versus cold extracted olive oil? What is Fleur d'Huile? Come and taste our olive oils in an idyllic scenery, amidst the olive groves. Please do contact us before visiting! Send us an email or call us and we will be happy to help you organise your visit. There is no public transportation to our olive mill. The closest bus station is the Palace of Knossos. From there you can take a taxi, it is less than 10 minutes away. Directions from Heraklion: Drive to the palace of Knossos. Continue on the main road after Knossos (towards Archanes) until very small village of Spilia. Before the Shell gaz station turn right and left immediately. You are now on the road that leads to the mill. Drive straight for about 2.5 km until you see our Koronekes banner. There turn left. In 500m you will see a blue gate, you have arrived!

Thanks so much to George for the incredibly informative and interesting tour of his family's olive oil business. The cold press process is fascinating. He is clearly passionate about his work, and the family is focused on producing the best product possible. We were especially appreciative of the tasting, which will now allow us to determine high quality EVOO. Can't wait to get home and have our purchases with dinner!
As an aside, you should call ahead to make an appointment. We didn't realize that until we arrived, but George was extremely accommodating and took us right away after he finished with his existing guests.
Many thanks from the NYC couple!

Watercity Water Park Themed Park

A humid, aquatic world unfold in front of you ... It is the unique WaterCity. The most entertainer and wild aquatic park in Europe, which offers pure amusement, with 34 water games of adrenaline, that will make you gasp incredibly.

Reviewed By Emma A - Norwich, United Kingdom

My partner and I visited Watercity in October so not ovally warm to be walking about soaking wet. A few rides were closed too.
Some really fun slides, especially those you have to use an inflatable for. All rides are rated on a scale of 1 to 3 according to how scary they are which I thought was very good.
There are a few health and safety issues so be careful- floors filthy in places, sharpe tiles sticking out and water depths not deep enough at the bottom of some rides so you could hit your head.
Lots of places to lay in the sun.
There are a few places to get food, although they have a serious issue with wasps!
We paid £40 each to go here with Thomas Cook, but it was over an hours taxi ride away for us so I think it was pretty good value for money.
Overall, a decent day out.

Dinosauria Park

Reviewed By RJoker - Geneva, Switzerland

It is a nice park for children with a lot of dinosaur models which growl and move a bit. Quite some information about different dinosaurs. There is one animation: dino-hospital - every half-an-hour. There is also a game for kids to collect the dino-stamps and finally get some (plastic) medals and diplomas - our kids (3 and 6 years old) were just happy. One more positive thing: the Planetarium which is accessible directly from the park: the shows are in Greek, English and Russian.
