Definitely worth visiting. I went there with my wife and two daughters, my parents, my sister's fiance and their two kids and I can honestly say that everyone were very happy with this trip. Great scenary and the animals all looked so healthy and fine.

Snow World Landgraaf

I visited SnowWorld in Landgraaf with my three children during the Christmas holiday. My kids have been skiing before and really enjoyed the vast slopes and diverse roots to take, all this indoors ! We rented our ski material onsite, which was very good quality. And we enjoyed a daily family ski session with a private instructor. Our instructor was wonderful. He took his time to assess each child's level and to guide them along the slopes; turned out to be a strong lesson, pushing them to develop and try new things.
We spend thoroughly enjoyable evenings in the onsite restaurants. The whole complex has a feel of being in a huge chalet out in the real Swiss Alps. Our room was compact, modern and very clean. We didn't mind it being petite sized as we spent most time out on the slopes anyway.
Highly recommended.

We took a relative out for "English tea" on the ZLSM preserved steam railway as a birthday treat.
Every 2 weeks during the railway add a restored Pullman carriage to the 12:00 steam train at Simpelfelt to Valkenburg and back.
Excellent experience, superb atmosphere and really great food backed up by excellent service from the people who actually helped restore the carriage.
We had a wonderful time and would recommend this as a special treat.
We only booked a couple of weeks in advanc - even so there were spare spaces for our group of 5.
The only complications were that I had to depend on translating the web site and Paying up front using an international bank transfer.
Our Dutch friends think this is normal, but sadly UK banks don't seem to make this as easy as it should be.....

The castle used to be on the Dutch-German trade route. It was always ruled by bishops. The castle is very historic and witnessed many historic events. A nice view of the town is also offered. It is the main landmark to see in Herzogengrath.

Very neatly done exhibition and very interactive as well. Be aware, only dutch or german explanation/instructions. However, it is quite self explanatory what to do and the staff do speak English if you need help. Our kids loved the analogue telephones and we kept calling each other on them. The another hit was the dismantling area, where using a screwdriver you could take apart everyday things like remote controlls or radio and examine them from the inside. Protetictive glass and gloves are provided and staff make sure that you wear them. The parking for the train station is in front of the discovery center whereas their client parkin is on the side along the rails. So it is kind of confusing at first sight.

Aachen Cathedral (Dom)

Reviewed By Ariadne1577

This is a truly impressive building, not so much in size as in decoration. We spent a good time looking at all the detail. The building itself is very old, the decoration is much newer, and from the outside you can see the old corridor that linked the Cathedral to the Rathaus.
A guided tour - costing only a few euros - is recommanded as for understandable reasons the most valuable objects - the shrine and throne - are roped off. As far as I could see there weren't any English tours available at the time of our visit though I imagine in summer this should be possible. Fortunately I speak German and our well informed tourguide spoke a clear German, obviously used to guided foreigners with reasonable knowledge of German around.
The church was surprisingly warm, especially compared to the frozen cold and wind outside.

Schunck

Reviewed By cameranny44 - Amsterdam, The Netherlands

Schunck is named after a cloting firm from the 19 thirties. A modernistic buidling by an architect named Fritz Peutz. After the decline of the the business the building got poorer and poorer. It escaped demolishing and is recently refurbished to its origins by the architects Wiel Arets Architects en Jo Coenen. In the basement we visited an excellent exhibition of the Bauhaus architect Mies van der Rohe. At the top we had an very tasteful dinner at "Mijn Streek".
So if you're in the south of Limburg or in Maastricht, visit also Heerlen and the Glass Palace Schunck.
