10 Things to do in Javea That You Shouldn't Miss

May 11, 2022 Claudia Navarrete

The coastal jewel of Javea is bookended by rocky headlands and is a prime example of old world meets modern energy. The "old town" district is filled with remains of walls built to keep out pirates, as well as a 14th-century church. Visit the beautiful white-sand Arenal beach, brimming with shops, restaurants and, in the summer, hopping beachside bars and nightclubs.

Playa del Arenal

A sandy beach in great location with plenty of restaurants and bars along the promenade for snacks, lunch, dinner etc. Lots of parking nearby for rental cars including our preferred underground car park (keeping the car out of the sun) which was only €3 for the day. Sun loungers on the beach were €7 each plus €7 for an umbrella in August 2019. There were pedalos and kayaks available to rent, but we didn't try these.

Bar Mercat

We came back to the bar on our first week back in Javea and what a pleasant surprise! The bar has been extended yet again and now covers almost all of one end of the indoor market. They are increasing their menu options and the new young man who served us spoke almost perfect English, as do all the staff. Coffee and tostada was hot and fresh. Good to be back.

Cala de Portixol

Reviewed By Sunny-tots - Costa Blanca, Spain

The name is "La Barraca" for the local people. Rural cove with gravel, boulders and pebbles between Cap Prim and Cap Negre. It can be accessed by car from the “Cabo de la Nao” road and on foot from the scenic viewpoint: “Mirador de la Cruz del Portitxol”. In front of this cove, there is the Portitxol Island (300 m) with major botanical and archaeological interest. It is highly recommended for scuba diving.

Playa La Granadella

Reviewed By AnneMariedVvD - Lunteren, The Netherlands

We hiked national park de la Granadella and to our biggest surprise after climbing rocks around a mountain rug we viewed playa the la Granadella where we kayaked last summer. This is simply a stunning and beautiful beach. In Februari without all tourists and beach guests it’s how mothe nature created beaches. Turquoise blue clear waters, sounds of birds, beautiful green and rocky cliffs. Sit there and listen to the sounds of the waves. If you can’t soak up nature and relax here.. you will probably not find a better place. Hopefully this beach will be protected from mass tourism the way it is situated.
