Reviewed By Joy_Sinha - Kolkata (Calcutta), India

Located in Hitachinaka, Ibaraki Prefecture. It is accessible by bus from the JR Katsuta station. JR Katsuta station is roughly 2.5 hours travel from the Tokyo station on the JR Joban Line.
The seaside park offers magnificent views throughout the year with different floral growths and landscapes along the park, The Summer is famous for the Nemophila - baby blue flowers and the autumn is famous for the pink coloured bush growths along the valley inside the park.
The park is spread out across a huge area and they have restaurants, restrooms, recreational activities like cycling , train rides as well. One side of the park is very close to the sea and offers views of the coastline and the Hitachi Port.
This is a wonderful one day activity on a holiday from Tokyo.

Aqua World Ibaraki Prefectural Oarai Aquarium

Reviewed By Towaka M - London, United Kingdom

Very large aquarium with very atmospheric music, which I really liked, and oceanic themes, obviously, which I loved. Beautiful sea creatures! I loved every minute of looking at these wonderful creatures.
The dolphin show was impressive, which I enjoyed very much.
There was a small reptile room which was absolutely packed at all times. I did not like the fact that the animals there were trapped in tiny cages, the worst being a large bat that had literally no space to spread it's wings and had no peace and quiet. I felt very sad for the bat and hopefully, they had given it a bigger cage.
Overall, I loved the aquarium, and I hope to visit there again!

Fukuroda Falls

Reviewed By Mark A - Queenstown, New Zealand

We visited these falls at the end of August and they were pumping, it starts off with a stroll down a quiet street in the Daigo-Machi area where there's some souvenir shops, you then walk up a steep little street and pay at the entrance to see the falls, you walk through a tunnel that has a few different viewing levels of the falls, at the end of the tunnel there's an elevator to take you to the top, when you arrive there's a tower that you walk up and get the best view.

Tsukuba Space Center

Reviewed By Xymyz - UK

I though the exhibition was good as it has lot of different and life size satellites and replica of the Japanese section of the ISS. However, we were bit disappointed by the fact that interactivity was nearly zero. Best museuums nowadays have more interactivity to help you keep interest. Especially inside the ISS module or around the satellites it would have been good to have more interactive materials. However, as a free museuym I cannot complain abotu this too much.

Kobuntei

Reviewed By hfot2 - Vermont

We very much enjoyed this ancient (reconstructed after a fire) building. Some very fine screen paintings and panels are found in many of the rooms in the women’s quarters. Each room is devoted to one variety thus the rooms are thematic in design. Poetry is on some of the walls, continuing the Literary theme of the entire garden. The men’s quarters are of a different design and the whole house very cleverly planned and executed.
A very pleasant garden surrounds the house. There are good views overlooking the valley from the garden and from the top floor of the villa.
We came to Mito to see Kairakuen, but we actually enjoyed our visit to Kobuntei much more.
tip:
¥200 entrance fee, free for seniors.

It was drizzling when we approach the area. Mist was all around, and all of the sudden, this Buddha statue looming out, only partially to our view. This was amazing!
As the sun slowly appeared, the full statue with the surrounding cherry blossom trees in full bloom make us realize that it was not a dream. So beautiful, peaceful and sacred.

Tsuchiura All Japan Fireworks Competition

Reviewed By mabei0123 - Tsukuba, Japan

The Tsuchiura National Fireworks Competition which is held in the first Saturday on October, is one of the top three Fireworks show in Japan (with over 20,000 fireworks) . It was held tonight this year on Oct 1, 2016. This was my 7-8th time to see this competition because I'm living in the neighborhood, but it reminds me once again that this is the best!! This competition is to contribute the improvement on the fireworks techniques aiming at the highest level in its quality, scale and contents. It consists of 3 divisions, Starmines, Size 10 shells, and Original displays. The Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Award was given to a winner of each division, and the Prime Minister Award was given to the best of winners of the 3 divisions. This is the best stage for them to show their skills which are highly qualified among the industry of the world highest level. In addition, this really is a great entertainment show of sound and light to give dreams and impressions to all spectators. Unlike many other Fireworks Shows in Japan, you can see the improving techniques and entertainments of fireworks in this competition, and thus I recommend to come and see it if you have a chance to come on early October!! Another attractions were “The wide starmines-The grandeur of Tsuchiura fireworks”(2000 fireworks were displayed in 6 min) and ”The ending fireworks”(the size 7 shells fireworks were displayed just the same as the number of competition) both presented by the committee. The fireworks can be seen from all around the city, but are best from the free or paid viewing spots along the river. The Tsuchiura city advises arriving by mid afternoon to secure a seat, and be sure to bring a tarp to sit on as some of the viewing spots are in freshly cut fields. Take JR Joban Line from Tokyo to Tsuchiura and then take a paid shuttle buses (240 yen) from the east exit of Tsuchiura Station to the official spots. After the end of the show, take the bus again back to the Station and the Joban line back to Tokyo.

Ryujin Big Suspension Bridge

Reviewed By Dearbhaile1 - Limerick, Ireland

The Ryujin suspension bridge seems like rather an impressive feat of engineering to undertake without any clear purpose however it is a beautiful spot for viewing the changing leaves in Autumn. The views are great, even when it is crowded. You can bungee jump from the bridge and there are a few shops and restaurants dotted around it.

Museum Park Ibaraki Nature Museum

Great place for a day trip! The grounds are large, and the exhibits are beautiful! The museum is large enough that even though there are many children, it is still possible to find a space where you can enjoy the vistas with your friend / significant other. Affordable as well, would definitely recommend to my friends.
