Herrin Park has a lot to offer - multiple playgrounds, a public pool with a waterslide, a skatepark and tennis courts, running trails and a dog park. There are multiple picnic pavilions to be rented out for events. Still has an old playground with the old school big swings. Sign the geocache too! Great place to spend a couple hours with friends or kids.

Crab Orchard has deer, turkeys, coyotes, eagles, orange headed black birds (unbelievable beauty) and the list goes on. The lake has many bays that are hidden from view and you feel like you are in a different place. The lake is not deep and you need to watch for rock and trees. We have fished the lake many times but we are catch and release. One does need to watch for snakes on the paths. There is a lot of history at the refuge that is only accessible at designated times. It is well worth the time to visit the old cemeteries. The eagles are breathtaking!

After seeing several commercias drove 1.5 hours. We looked them up on their website. The menu looked great. We were willing to drive the distance and pay the price. ...not cheap. NO WHERE WE'RE THE HOURS POSTED. when we got there. ...yet were closed. We stopped at the general store on the way out and THE MANAGER was glad to show us online where we DID NOT SEE THE HOURS....BECAUSE THEY ARE ONLY LISTED UNDER VENUES...not under the restaurant ....smh
I was not looking for a venue. ...will never go back and don't appreciate the story managers attitude .

This place is awesome for kids and kids at heart. It is a medieval setting with a "castle" labyrinth play area. The grounds are always clean and well maintained.
There are no admission and the park is open during daylight hours.
I highly recommend visiting with or without kids!

It's a great place to watch a game. The Minors are a winning team. Most nights you can show up just before the National Anthem and still get great seats. We were row 4 behind home plate. Tickets are very reasonable. Our were either $12 or $14. Lawn seats are $4. I think it's Wednesday nights beer and hot dogs are $1. Friday nights they have the fireworks. We go 5 or 6 times a year and always a great game (of course it's better when the home team wins). Play ball!

Whenever you are in southern Illinois and you want to play golf (or need to as I sometimes feel) C.O.G.C. is the place to check out. Casual but a decent course that has some of the funniest and fun pros. Don't expect gourmet food in the clubhouse but you can expect a cold can of beer and a pretty good sandwich. Above low-brow but definitely not collar-up. Great people. Great golf prices. Wish I was there right now!

Marion Carnegie Library is a first rate facility. It caters to all ages and the staff is the best. A beautiful, historic building, lots of kid-oriented facilities as well as multimedia meeting rooms for community groups. Our group has been meeting here for years and the staff couldnt be more accommodating.

I've been to John Brown's at least a dozen times, and never had a bad experience. Their bartenders are always great to talk with, and John himself is one the easiest guys to chat to as well. Their selection is great, and the prices are just as good.
They do like to have local bands play-- and it's not a very big place. So there are nights where it will be pretty loud.
All in all-- a place I loved to grab a beer after work.

These beautiful botanical gardens are just starting and have a looooong way to go before the "finished dream project" but even what they already have is gorgeous.
