Grapevine Historic Main Street District

Reviewed By happytraveler4209 - Arlington, Texas

I take mini vacations often. I’ll take a day, find a nearby old town and “window” shop. Grapevine Texas is one of the places I go. Yesterday, I spent about 6 hours walking the main strip in old, historic Grapevine. It was decked out for St Patrick’s Day. I found a street gender with jerky. The farmers market offered unique kiwi berries and local honey. I bought a wonderful spiced tea soap and lotion at Grace. An outfit for Bass Hall was found in a boutique. I was disappointed that the store that had metal yard work was closed. I had a wonderful time here, enjoyed the rain, the people, the shops and the experience. I’ll be back.

Staff was very friendly and helped squeeze us in right at closing time on a Sunday afternoon. Interactive stamp machine kept the kids intrigued and looking forward to the next room or sea life. Tunnel with glass ceiling & floor was awesome; the kids could not get enough and a bathroom was conveniently placed in the middle of the tour! The educational video at the end was a welcomed break for the parents and very enlightening for the kids. It was also very cool that they had a station at the very end that was interactive and allowed you to give your opinion on what wildlife the company should work with next. Would gladly spend a couple more hours here again on our next vacation. well Done Sea Life!

My aunt and uncle, who are locals, took us to this place. You can see the planes take off from Dallas Fort Worth International here. There is a small park with a small free parking lot. Kids of any age would love this, especially considering you cannot get this close to most airports.

There are no restrooms or food for purchase. It is wheelchair and stroller friendly.

Once a lonely little park, this is now a magical place with many hidden surprises. Lovely pathways lines with trees, flowers and plants, bubbling water, koi fish, bridges, a green house, a composting learning center, and an oak tree older than the United States. All under shady trees, dappled sun and lots of room to roam. Many a photo has been taken here -- graduations, engagements, family portraits. You can rent the Bessie Mitchell House attached to the park for events and meetings. A great playground and picnic area is next to the gardens, which are beautiful year-round.

Wanted to check out a product at one of the stores and headed over against my better judgement. Didn't realize it was this big until I got there. Plenty of store selection and there is a good court available. Be prepared for a crowd and be ready to walk if need be. It suits the purpose just fine, but I can be quite a curmudgeon about these places.

Great Wolf Lodge Waterpark

Reviewed By donim1974 - Arlington, Texas

We've been to Great Wolf Lodge several times for staycations. Typically we have a good time with no issues. The last time we went, we had several billing mistakes, and they kept taking money , and every time they were supposed to fix it, they didn't. They didn't notate the account for the supervisors, and we had to go over the issues multiple times; each time they just pointed a finger at someone else, or did not make notes like they told us they were. It was so frustrating that we left early, because we had enough going back and forth. This was likely an anomaly, but we haven't been back since.

Since I don't believe this to be a regular issue, and don't want to deter others from experiencing the facility, I would also like to point out that we have a good time with the facilities.

The indoor park is quite fun, and the staff in general is very helpful and fun. There are things to eat there, but if you decide to go out, there are plenty of places to eat and the mall is close as well.

If you want to do the quest game with your kids...just be prepared for a lot of walking and alot of up and down flights of the building. The kids enjoy it, but not something you want to do in one day. Spread it out after the pool closes or before you go back to the pool in the morning. :)

Again, we did have one major issue with them, but we have had a lot of fun at Great Wolf Lodge as well. The lodge feel is really a nice little get away.

Saw this place for years and wondering what kind of trails or walking trails does it offers. I was pleasantly surprised by the various types of terrain it offers. It's best to visit when there's too many people, though. Very popular in the morning! Check it out, you will come back for sure.

Vetro Glassblowing Studio and Gallery

Glass artist David Gappa founded Vetro in 1999. During that time, Gappa cultivated a team of glass artists who perform their art of glassblowing in Vetro’s state-of-the-art working studio. The studio and attached fine art glass gallery are located in the historic district of Grapevine, Texas. In addition to creating fine art glass, Vetro artists enjoy educating the public about this ancient art form through live demonstrations and hands-on events. Simultaneously, Vetro’s friendly and inviting gallery staff create a relaxed and comfortable gallery atmosphere in which to browse and shop.

Reviewed By CraftBeers - Plano, Texas

Don't leave Main Street without a visit to Vetro. It's easy to miss, since it's not on Main Street. It's hidden on the sorth end behind a plain green building across from the train depot. The Vetro sign does not give any hints what the place holds.

Vetro is a blown glass studio with an active state-of-the-art equipment and professional glass artists. The front half is a studio that displays their glass and art that is for sell. It's cool in its own right. The real magic is through the gallery doors. Three small rows of stadium seating have been set up to watch the magic of glass blowing. What a beautiful art to watch.

As this is an active glass shop, they work during business hours. They probably are not there on weekends and nights unless they are leading a class. I really loved watching glass bulbs being made for a sculpture in a building being built in Dallas.

My husband, my Dad, and I come here at least twice a week. On Sundays we always see Josiah. He's always very friendly, personable and accommodating. The building has a great story behind it, and Josiah is very knowledgeable and willing to explain it all. Patty is usually there on Tuesdays and is so much fun to chat with. Everyone is always so friendly and the wine is great. There is something for everyone. Sweet wines, dry wines, wine slushies, ports, cheese plates, and truffles. The tastings are $10 and you get to keep the glass. There are a couple rooms down stairs with leather chairs, and a small patio upstairs. The wine club is such an amazing deal with discounts and special events. It only requires a quarterly commitment to order wine. Very reasonable. This is our new favorite place. We feel like part of a family.
