Indian Echo Caverns

Natural Splendor along the Swatara.Like many caverns in the Mid-Atlantic states, Indian Echo Caverns is a limestone cave. Cut through Beekmantown limestone, which is over 440 million years old, they were formed through the erosive properties of water. As time progressed, geological forces led to an "uplift" of the surrounding limestone, eventually allowing more and more water to flow through the formation. As the water flowed over the limestone, it began to create small crevices, these small crevices led to larger ones, and eventually, over a series of millions of years, it created the caverns as they are today. The temperature inside the caverns is 52 degrees year around.

Reviewed By graymar6 - Chambersburg, PA

We took our grandson to visit the caverns in December. Because they are underground, the temps remain at 50 degrees year round - it was warmer than the outdoor temps. The caverns are relatively small when compared to many of the more well known caves (Luray) but offer many of the same geological formations, narrow passageways, and an underground lake. Our guide was engaging and told many stories about the caverns. You can find discount admission coupons online. The gift shop offered many low cost options for kid souvenirs. Be aware that you walk down a distance into the caverns, and consequently, have a pretty steep climb (with steps) coming back up.

For children there are lots of hands on activities and a separated room with an extreme miniature railroad setup.

This is a beautiful place to spend time with the family either by hiking, biking, exercising, or playing. There's a lot of areas that you can enjoy under the sun or in the shade. They have picnic tables throughout. The lake is there for fishing and canoeing. I'm not sure if swimming is allowed, it was still a bit cold for that so nobody was swimming. Will definitely go back for some relaxing time enjoying nature and family.

We were having brunch in the next town over on a sweltering day & phoned Michael on a lark, and he arranged for us to do the murder mystery 30 minutes later. It turned out to be the perfect diversion for three adults and three children ages 9-14. None of us had done an escape room before. Michael recommended the murder mystery, where you investigate a murder that actually occurred in the area in the 19th century. Michael is an engineer and he wired up the whole room (you can't tell though - except for the hidden electronics, there's nothing anachronistic) so it ends up being a multi-sensory experience, and you need to really explore and come up with creative ideas for how to solve each successive riddle. We solved it in 45 minutes with 4 clues (though I'm sure we could have done it in three in under the hour!). We're looking forward to returning for Three Mile Island and Houdini's Escape.

Lots of flowers and they also have a butterfly sanctuary indoors. It is gorgeous. There are butterflies everywhere.

The grounds are well spaced and cared for. I would recommend going here.

Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course

Reviewed By StevenJ18 - Durham

In town visiting family, decided to go to Hollywood/Penn National for the horse races.

Arrived and went into the casino, oh my goodness the smell of smoke is over powering everywhere. It’s awful. Walked around the casino, the appearance is not too bad. Tried to find the horse track. Asked a friendly slot attendant who directed us upstairs. Went up and an older emoyee lady was busy with her tissue cleaning her keyboard. Asked her about the horse races and she acted like we inheritors her from her cleaning. Told us the races were canceled, too cold. As we asked more questions like maybe they will have them tomorrow, she told us to grab a brochure and make a phone call. Oh well,

So we’re there, might as well do something else. So played slot machines. Nice selection, plenty of penny, nickle quarter machines scattered around. But hard to breath with all the smoke, smoking. Tried a variety of different machines. Thought we would try a cocktail, you must pay for them, minimum $5..unless you’ve managed to gamble away your life savings, while keeping track of each dollar lost on a red card, then I guess you can get a free one.

Around 7pm we were hungry so thought we would try the buffet. $15 and the various signs show shrimp, thought okay, let’s eat. Learn from our mistake....STAY AWAY!!!!

Serious, the most pitiful, awful dining buffet ever. Such a dismal selection, everything cold, just awful. They had a pot labeled Egg Drop Soup, that I am not kidding looked like dish water. Thought we would try it anyway, guess what it tasted like. Correct. Dish water.

My dad mentioned to the friendly waitress and she said she heard complaints before. My dad suggested they hire someone from a local Chinese restaurant and have that person give them some training.

Could not find one item that wasn’t cold, over cooked, bland just awful, so just settled on making a salad, which was fresh and some good items to put on it.

Various beer choices ($5) but passed on them, didn’t want to spend another dime at that place.

Serious, it was that bad. Our group of three couldn’t believe how bad. My father had been here around 5 years ago and said it was bad then but wanted to give it another chance.

Even if it was free i would say no thank you. Asked the waitress where they hide the shrimp. Ohhh that’s only on the weekend, and that buffet costs $50. So I guess it could have been worse, we could have gone on the weekend and spent $50 instead of $15 for this garbage.

Will say however, decent deserts. Apple crisp that was, well, crisp, but could fix by putting a little ice cream on it.

Went back into the smoke filled casino, tried the breath! Spent a few more hours at the slot machines. Had a good time with that. Tried different ones. My dad decided to get a cocktail, paid the $4 and got a martini, it came in like a small clear plastic cup. And only half a cup. He asked the attendant where the other half was and she just said “ it’s a martini” no kidding. So that’s why you get half a cup? Amazing

A lot of the table games were close, the few that were open were filled to capacity,

Have fun trying to find a bathroom as well.

Wanted to experience horse racing, and that’s the reason we went.

Never again.

Took my husband for a surprise birthday tour on a Friday evening, where 6 of our friends met us at the Brewery. Took the 5$ tour first and it was very informative and interesting. We had several tastes along the way. Picked up a flight and something to eat, and settled in at a table to eat lamb, brisket and fries, sweet potato chips, Bahn mi. Chips were tasty but VERY salty. Everything else was good, but the brisket won hands down. Parking is limited although the new lot is large. Tasting room/food tables are large and noisy so be prepared for that.

I have been a repeat client of Gulien's Massage and Salt Room in Palmyra, PA for many years. The massage therapist, Eve, provides the best deep tissue massage I have ever had. Her professionalism and technique applying the right pressure to untangle the knots is superb. The spa is very clean and provides a calming and relaxing atmosphere. I have also tried the Salt Room when I had a sinus infection and having 3 treatments within 1 week seemed to alleviate the sinus pressure and shorten the length of the infection. I would highly recommend checking out their services.
