Castello di Gradara

This makes a great day trip from Pesaro. My husband loves Pesaro's Beaches, I want activities, so I took bus #130 from the bus/train station in Pesaro, about one hour which drops passengers off right at Castello di Gradara's parking lot. Walk straight up hill 5 minutes and you are there! (return to Pesaro on bus #131, same location as drop off)
The Castello has excellent signage in English and Italian, plus tours are offered, but I enjoyed just strolling on my own. It has been beautifully restored and contains paintings, furniture and lots of history. Even the infamous Borgia family had a member living there ... Lucrezia stayed here two years before her husband had the marriage annulled!
The Castello had a small gift shop, clean bathrooms and lockers. Wear good shoes, steep stone streets can be slippery. Lots of small restaurants and boutique shops perched on the hill for a couple of hours of enjoyment. Well worth the view alone!

I remember Reading an obscure bit of trivia, some years ago, where a competition to find a slogan to promote the town was launched. The resulting "Gabicce,a mountain of sea",fused the idea of beautiful sea and harmonious hills and Mountains.

And so it is,when we found ourselves in this peculiar little town on the north side of the coastal Adriatic, characterised by beautiful Beaches and gentle hills,a pure magnet to super-annuated 'surfies' like my femme and i. Lots of indigenous Italians as well as foreigners gambol about.
The sandy Beaches, resorts and hotels create a party-going atmosphere which is a great reprieve from monotonous villages of little account. Even if ancient seafaring memories are vanishing the vocation for hospitality remains true.

Nice beach with pool, animators and many other services. The sand is probably the best kind there is. There might be too many people there for somebody's taste - the beach gets quite crowded with about 800 seats spanning just about a hundred meters.
