Frostburg is a city in Allegany County, Maryland, United States, and is at the head of the Georges Creek Valley. It is part of the Cumberland, MD-WV Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 9,002 at the 2010 census. Located 8 miles (13 km) west of Cumberland, the town is one of the first cities on the "National Road", US 40, and the western terminus of the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad. Since 1973, the city has been served by what is now Interstate 68.

The museum has a lot of artifacts, photos and information on life on the canal. It was noted that some of the audio listening devices were not operational. You can physically see the canal and a canal boat that was built in 1976. The museum is located in the lower level of the Western Maryland Railroad building. This is definitely worth the visit.

If you are interested in early transportation history in the United States, then this is a nice place to stop. The toll house, which is one of the few left standing along the old National Road gives you a nice idea into what transportation would have been like back in the early 1800s. On Sundays they usually have interpreters there and you can tour the inside. During the week, you can not get inside, but you can walk around it and read the signs.

No, it is not in the main park area and no, it is not quite so easy to find, but the locals will point the way. Climb the steps and ignore the spray-painted rocks and look out over the valley to see three states. There's a good chance all you'll hear is the wind and you can feel yourself become small as the vista spreads out before you. You can climb down the front side of the rocks onto the rocky tableau below with just a bit of desire and youthful agility, and it makes for a nice spot for a picnic-in-a-backpack.

The scenic overlook of the Potomac Valley lets you seen from Maryland into West Virginia and Pennsylvania. Dan's Rock, not a part of Dan's Mountain State Park, further south, is a peaceful, solitary place. The metal stairs to get to the top are courtesy of my cousin. It is not really handicapped accessible. You can skip the stairs and scramble up the rock. Do be careful of rattlesnakes. They are there - don't bother them and they won't bother you. The panorama is worth the trip.

Because we couldn't park the RV at Gathland, we actually turned around here. We stopped on a Sunday afternoon and walked through the cemetery. This alone was worth it. These families go back to the mid 1800's. We found it very interesting.

The old Klotz Throwing Mill, popularly know as the Lonaconing Silk Mill, closed and locked its doors in August of 1957, due to a labor dispute. It is intact inside. The 1957 calendar is on the wall, and the workers lunch pails are on the desks. It is a time capsule.
This mill was the recipient of raw silk from the far east, coming to the west coast in sailing ships, and rushed across country in special priority trains. At the lonaconing facility, the raw silk was transformed into thread. It then went to mills in eastern Pennsylvania by train.
The old factory has been visited by American Pickers and a Smithsonian Film Crew.
Every one wants to restore it, but it is structurally beyond that. It is privately owned, and not generally open.
There was a similar facility in Cumberland, some 15 miles away. The building survives, but is empty.

Unique atmosphere with amazing food and conversation. A large selection of craft beers with a knowledgable staff. Amazing venue that showcases acoustic music along with a wide range of electric music ranging from rock, funk, jam to bluegrass. Dantes is definitely our favorite spot in Frostburg.

The Iron furnace, in the Lonaconing Town Park was built in the late1830's.
It was in the middle of plentiful iron ore and coal deposits. It was productive
enough that it out-produced the ability to ship the product where it was needed.
The furnace, and the town in general was modeled on the Welsh model, and iron workers from Wales were brought in to operate the facility.
Just a little further down Main Street is the library, styled something like the furnace - a good palce to research local history.

While this has been a boon to the area, it also costs the taxpayers a lot of money to maintain. Both the state and county have had to spend a lot to keep it going, and there still is no steam locomotive on the horizon.

So, I've been a loyal customer of the Cumberland location for over a year now. At the time I decided to stop smoking cigarettes and figured ecigs would be my best bet. I started with the most basic equipment...an ego-t battery with a kangertech t3d attachment. I was using said products for over a year with really no issues.
About 2 months ago I was having a discussion with one of the employees at the Cumberland location about battery strength, etc and was talked into buying a new battery, the smok xpro m80 plus with a new attachment, the starre freemax. Now seeing that both of these products were not only a step up in quality but price as well I wanted to make sure they carried replacement glass cylinders for my attachment and, at the time, I was told that not only did they carry replacements the product also came with one. "Great", I thought...and I completed my purchase.
Well the first cylinder broke within a week. I admit it was my own fault...I screwed the top on too tight and wound up cracking it. So I ended up using my replacement cylinder that came with the attachment.
Today I broke the replacement...again, my fault. I went to the Cumberland location to get a new cylinder. That's when I was told that, no, they do not carry any replacement parts...at all. They offered no solutions other than to either get ahold of the company online and place an order through them or purchase a whole new attachment...$40 btw.
I've never felt so cheated in my life. Not only was I lied to, I was basically told, "oh well, not my problem".
I will NEVER bring my business to the Cumberland location again.
