Chateau de Fougeres

Went to Fougères on a whim and was captured by its charm. Decided on a quick visit to the beautiful castle and 2 and a half hours later we emerged having delighted in the place and enjoyed informative and entertaining audio guide which gripped us. Not too many people around on this dull October afternoon which possibly helped. Plus, we were adults only and did not have to worry about children losing their focus. I learnt lots and found the history of the place, and Brittany more generally, quite fascinating. 8€50 well spent.

Jardin Public

We spent a day in Fougeres in December and it was a truly delightful town, and even this garden was beautiful. Adjacent to one of the churches, it was decorated in Christmas decor. The views of the countryside were amazing and the view of the chateau was great - really shows the size. We walked all over the town, this was our favorite spot. Great city overall, not many tourists, but still plenty of activity.

Eglise Saint-Sulpice de Fougeres

Close to the old quarter and just opposite the Chateau de Fougeres. The Eglise Saint-Sulpice de Fougeres was started in 1380 but not finished until 1760. Not on the large scale of many of the French churches I have visited but well worth the visit just to admire the detail of the knave and stalls.

This comes as a combined ticket with the chateau or you can climb the tower for 2 €. The tower is well worth the effort and there are stunning views on all 4 sides. The church has the most amazingly coloured stained glass windows.

Les Jardins du Val Nancon

We walked thru this park, following the recommended walking tour around Fourgeres. This was a pretty little park/garden outside the walls of the city. Quiet, green, near the river, a few sculptures, nice place for a picnic...a bit better than your typical park. 3.5 stars.

When entering an 'office du tourisme' of course, you would like some information. We got a booklet about Fougères with some explanation on sights to see. The staff was really helpful. We spoke French, so no information about ability to speak other languages.Good afternoon LilyLighthouse ! Thanks a lot for your kind message ! If you fancy testing our skills in other languages, don't hesitate to come back another time in our Tourist office ! ;) Best regards,

Well worth a visit if you have a combined ticket with the chateau. An interesting building in the centre of town with a small but interesting collection of Villeon's works.

Evasion Game
