It can't be called a main sight of Fano , nevertheless it's marvellous as it reminds of old city fortress. We either started or finished our walks along the downtown streets at this point.

Piazza XX Settembre

Fano is a small seaside town for families and the Piazza, while surrounded by ancient history is broad and lively while still relaxing. i relaxed with a 1/2 ltr weiss beer, delicious on that hot muggy night. There are numerous bars serving their outdoor tables, very little traffic and a sense of fun pervading the space. The eye catching 12th c. church of San Silvestro is found on the square, it is situated near the outdoor tables so that one may examine its intricacies while munching aperitif hour nibbles and sipping a cold one-is there really a better way to tour the sights?

If you have the time, make a visit! This monastery has gorgeous views of Fano and the sea below. Since it's a mountain do not take a bike because it's steep but a vigorous walk or a short car drive are good. There's a little shop for cute souvenirs and the whole monastery has a very calming feeling.

I really liked this library, specially its very modern and clear atrium and entrance lounge, made of glass and steel structure, even though it's not a very touristic site in the city. Also very nice the way they divide the rooms to the kids and teenagers by age.

Our family has been coming here during our local stay each summer for the past 8 years - and no trip would be complete without multiple visits to the Pino Bar.
With more than 40 flavours of homemade ice creams and sorbets to choose from, one can never go wrong!
Pino Bar may sell items other than ice cream, but frankly, who cares!!!

We were unable to find the gates to the church open after 4 days of trying but had an opportunity to admire the sarcophogus of the Malatesti who were the dominant family of this region centuries back. Even a partial strained glimpse we got through the massive barred gate of the inside of this roofless church is worth a visit if you are in Fano.

Unbelievable attention has been paid to built the 50 diorama (scenes) representing stories of the Bilble and the Gospel. There is always a mechanical part of the scene which makes it even more interesting.
Very well explained in Italian, not sure if they have written pamphlets in other languages.
It took us about 30 minutes to go trough the scenes and explain them to the kids.

All of the Beaches in Fano are great, and this one is no exception.
The water is very blue, and the weather was great.
As a Canadian, I felt that the water was more than warm enough to swim in during late May, but apparently Italians beg to differ, because the umbrellas were not yet set up when I was there lol

Whereever you go in Italy most probably you will find something which has its origins in the Roman Empire. The city walls of Fano are worth to look at, hey are pretty good conserved.
