Sorry for very late review, we did underground caving tour more than an year back. Being an international visitor I was worried about exploring new places that fills my thrill. But the staff who organized our tour was very warm and welcoming. Their knowledge about the caves on the private property was impeccable. If you want to experience natural caving experience which is not commercialized I would recommend this for you.

Sycamore Shoals State Historic Park

Sycamore Shoals State Historic Park protects the land that was the location of several important historic events that occurred in the late 18th century. Leaving the English colonies, settlers began arriving along the Watauga Old Fields, in search of a new life on what was Cherokee land. The park offers quality educational programs throughout the year telling the stories of the Watauga Association, Transylvania Purchase, Cherokee War of 1776, the Overmountain Men and so much more! John Carter, one of the primary political, military and business leaders of this era, and his son Landon, built a home, the Carter Mansion, three miles from Sycamore Shoals. This structure is the oldest standing frame house in Tennessee, dating back to the mid to late 1770s.

This Tennessee state park houses a nice museum recounting the area's early settlement history: the arrival of the Watauga settlers, who first rented and later purchased their land from the Cherokees; the Transylvania Purchase, known as the largest private land transaction in the US; the Cherokee attack on the area's settlers in 1776; and the Overmountain Men's preparation for and defeat of the British at Kings Mountain, SC, during the American War for Independence.

Behind the museum is a reproduction of Fort Watauga, the palisade at Sycamore Shoals which protected European settlers during Indian attacks.

I was so surprised when I was exiting the downtown area to see this covered bridge. I had to stop and walk through it as well as take some pictures. Parking nearby is pretty tight as there are many homes in the area and parking is not allowed in parts of the neighborhood.
