Rainbow River

Reviewed By valerieann2020 - North Port, United States

Despite being 30 feet deep in some places, it feels like you could reach out and touch the bottom since the water is crystal clear. My husband and I took a 2 hour tubing trek via the state park. Living in FL, we all know that fresh water is a no go, due to the alligators that make their homes in the tall reeds. While the bottom of the river looks like it would be home to gators, the cool 72 degree water, year around, and the constant parade of people on the river make alligators a nonissue. This was so surprising to me and I was thrilled to find such a place, even with it being three hours north of where we live. We saw a fish or two and a turtle during our journey down the river. The houses on the river reminded me of something from a movie out of the 70's. Children play on the river and the residents like to sit outside and relax. A time long forgotten. It was so relaxing and something that everyone must try! We can't wait to go back.

Park With Beach And Restrooms For Entering Rainbow River

Reviewed By rosieh785

Used the boat to take us toward the headsprings. The captain was wildy entertaining and knowledgeable about the area. We entered and did a drift dive back. Explored some vents grassy areas and performed the safety skills needed to complete certification. It is a very enjoyable dive I'd recommend staying on the left side of the river so you don't miss the deepest part. It was fun!!! The facilities at the park were adequate and exiting on the boat ramp made getting out with our gear on easier. While diving we saw lots of fish, bass, gar and tons of small fish, turtles (and baby turtles) and anhingas.

Blue Run of Dunnellon Park

The Blue Run area has several trails taking you around the pond then ends on the Greenway. There are plaques and benches to take in the scenery along the path. The greenway path takes you to parking entrances on both ends. The walk is peaceful with bodies of water, bridge over the river and lots of critters along the way.

The Pickin’ Patch

What a great farm. Go out into field to pick your pumpkin. Just like up North with fields of pumpkins. Whole field of sunflowers beautiful big ones. Lots of places for family pictures. Large cornmaze. Pick your own flowers and pumpkins. Wagons to pull the littles ones in. My grandson loved it. Hayride, slides for the children. Set up so nice when you first go in. Spend hours just exploring and having fun. The people who own it and workers are so nice. Small refreshment bars for drinks. We had so much fun picking our perfect pumpkin. The only suggesting i would make is to get there early in the season. There are so many flowers and pumpkins than to pick from. The large field of sunflowers was so pretty that i got lots of colorful pictures. So many pumpkins to choose from and lots of sizes. What a great time for the whole family. Cant wait till next year to go back.
