10 Things to Do in Dobrinishte That You Shouldn't Miss

November 20, 2017 Osvaldo Hartline

Dobrinishte (Bulgarian: Добринище) is a small town and ski resort in the Blagoevgrad Province, Bansko Municipality, southwestern Bulgaria. As of 2006 it has 2973 inhabitants. It is located 6 km east of Bansko, a famous winter resort. It has an altitude of 850 m and is surrounded by the Rila, Pirin, and Rhodope mountains. Dobrinishte offers good conditions for both winter and summer tourism: beautiful nature, hospitable population, ski runs, mineral waters and opportunities for rural and ecotourism. According to legends and song, between 6th and 15th century Dobrinishte was a Bulgarian stronghold which halted the Byzantines from invading the country from the valley of the Mesta River.

Bezbog - peak in Pirin Mountains

Getting to Bezbog is experience enough, a 14 k winding road up to the two man chair lift was interesting, but the actual chair lift to the top is so much fun(don't wear flip flops as you need to be able to get off quickly and avoid the chair behind). The views on the lift are great, but once at the top, they are amazing. There are various walks to take and getting to some of the other lakes can be challenging but so worth while once you get there. All in all, a great place to visit.

No doubt that the scenery there is stunning as the journey from Bansko up to the hut was through a heavily wooded area. We could not leave the car however due to an invasion of flies that literally covered the windscreen as we pulled up.. Such a shame..

I absolutely love this resort. It has so many different options to do during summer and winter. This is the place where I started learning how to golf. After my lessons there I started participating in golf tournaments. I am very proud and thankful to Pirin Golf for helping me learn and introducing me to this sport.
The hotel is very winter like, specious and luxury. I very much like the alpine design and the small details in the construction and decoration there.
The best place to eat is the club house - recommencement the meat and fish ! it is very nice

Bansko Ski Mania

Reviewed By ness_956 - England

After contacting a few ski schools in Bansko, Ski Mania had the best communication and were reasonably priced with good reviews.
Had the pleasure of being taught by Teddy for 4 days every morning for 2 hours whilst visiting Bansko for a Skiing holiday with friends. I had pre booked the lessons 2 months before hand as I had gone on a skiing holiday the year before and had a bad fall. I wanted to learn how to ski properly and although it was slightly more expensive, I would highly recommend booking a 1:1 lesson. I saw huge groups of 10+ people and they were barely moving as there were so many of them. In saying that, private lessons in Bansko are much cheaper than private lessons in England or Ski Dubai.
I had previously had a few lessons so I was able to snow plough and slightly turn. By the end of the 2nd lesson, Teddy was showing me how to parallel turn. It’s amazing what progress you can make in just a few hours and I felt extremely safe and comfortable when he was around. He took me on blue runs on my 2nd day, which is something I thought I could never do so quickly. If you are learning to ski, or need some lessons to brush up on your skills, 1:1 private lessons are the way forward
The ski school was very good with hiring. They let me collect my ski stuff the day I arrived even though I was going to start skiing the day after. You can also store your ski gear there overnight and leave your shoes in the shop during the day. The shop is around the corner from the gondola and it opens at 7:30am.
Half term is extremely busy and we made the mistake of starting the queue for the gondola at 8:30 when we were told it opened. It took us 1.5 to reach the top of the gondola (which should be a 25mins journey in the gondola). What they didn’t say in the shop is that we should start in the queue from 7:30, the gondola opens just before 8am during half term. I missed the 1st hour of my first lesson and luckily they didn’t charge me for it.
Dropping off ski gear and picking up was very quick and easy. I needed to change my boots after the first day and this was fine with no hassle.
I thoroughly enjoyed my experience in Bansko and especially Ski Mania. I would highly recommend them and if you’re learning how to ski, Teddy is your guy!

Near the gondola are the main bar and restaurant attractions, with trendy music and food options from as little as £2 for street food up to £20 at a trendy restaurant. However not all places accept cards.
Please head down Pirin st into town and try a local Mexana. These have a great and more traditional atmosphere, some with live music, and local food. The shashlik is just awesome (giant skewer). But not many veggie options. Other than bars and restaurants there are some crafts shops with some interesting stuff.

I recommend a visit to this authentic orthodox church in the old and original Bansko about 1 hour with it's painted murals on the old walls and currently under refurbishment though not too much of a distraction. A beautiful old and original church, watch out for the massive bird nest in the belfry with a bell that is not automated like most these days. You will come across beggars many of whom are small children in this church and around this area.

A large house by Bulgarian standards and furnished as it would have been over 100 years ago.. Entrance was around 2 lev which amounts to around a Euro so well worth the money to visit a traditional home. The exhibit is mainly on the first floor and I did see a modern lift available for wheelchair users or those less ambulant.
Interesting visit of around 30 minutes

The House Museum of Neofit Rilski (1793 – 1881), the founder of secular education in Bulgaria and the first Bulgarian encyclopaedist gives an interesting glimpse into an era when Bulgaria just refound their own identity. It is small but gives a good idea of 18th century Bulagaria
