October 21, 2017 Natalie Tallman

As the ancient capital of the Burgundy province, Dijon is an architecturally rich city offering far more than mustard. In its restored medieval core, you'll discover one of France's oldest museums, the MusŽe des Beaux-Arts, as well as the elegant Palace of the Dukes and the opulent 1614 mansion H™tel de Vogue. Take a quiet walk through the lime- and chestnut-lined paths of Cours du Parc, a green space dating to 1671, and don't forget to pair the region's rich history with its gastronomic delights.

The owl brass plaques embedded in the pavement take you around the key points of interest in Dijon. A book available from the tourist information centre provides addition information on each point as well as fun facts and is good value at €3.50. The trail has won Dijon awards. Hopefully other cities will put in place something similar!

The ambiance at Place de la Liberation changes as the day goes on. During summer the lighting travels through the dancing waters, the small cafes and the charming shops. You can either have a hearty breakfast, a romantic dinner at Le temps du Ducs, go window shopping or just people watching while sipping a hearty Borgougne. Late night is a show of lights and charming young people. Definitely worth a visit. Maybe more than once.

Excellent place to visit, very nice guide. Amazing when the weather is good: we can then have a view of Dijon and its several churches all around. And the guide could tell us everything about each place we wanted to have more information about.

Musee de la Vie Bourguignonne

Reviewed By scarletgleam - Cambridge

Well displayed material gave fascinating insights into the life of ordinary people in Burgundy in times past. The displays about some of the area's specialities (mustard, biscuits, Cassis) were especially interesting. Clothing, domestic interiors and home life, transport, economic and political activity were all covered.
Staff were helpful and the museum was a nice cool refuge from the tourist crowds on a hot day.

Enormous structure, also the home of the museum of the fine arts. Mix of different styles, from the baroque to medieval elements. In the 15th century, the House of Burgundy was one of the leading houses in the world with vast possessions, including Flanders and Luxemburg. This building is a firm expression of their wealth.

Fromagerie Gaugry located a short trip from Dijon, and it's a place that must be visited when in the area.
Not only you can see and learn about how they make their cheese, they have a nice tasting room where you can savor different types of cheeses with a nice glass of local burgundy wine.
Of course you can then go to the store and purchase all those you liked and enjoyed.
Was kind of surprising and a learning experience to see people coming to their store with an ice chest to buy cheese.

Well I didn't expect the museum have so few to show and only be about the Middle Age which is not my favourite period. Lots of waste of space: large rooms, big staircase but not a lot on show... Luckily it was free...

This street is a must when visiting Dijon. Its facades are very old yet exceptionally well-preserved. Its western terminus ends up at the famed Gustave Eiffel Carousel merry-go-round. A more lively place. especially during the market, would be hard to find. Great great people-watching and just chilling-out at an outdoors cafe table. I am done. The end.

Notre Dame

Early 13th-century gothic church features gargoyles and slender columns topped by the famous 14th-century Jacquemart Clock.

Reviewed By onlaydoc - South Windsor, Connecticut

At about a third the size of the more famous Norte Dame, it is still impressive in architecture and historical significance. It houses the armless statue that is said to be responsible for two miracles, one of which is depicted in the Musee de Beaux Arts tapestry. On one of its corners is the famous owl itself that is represented throughout the city in the walking tour medallions set in the cobblestones( One must rub it with the LEFT hand for luck, the right will bring the reverse). The gargoyles have their own very interesting stories!

Maybe it was the time we visited (early June) but the garden was lacking in flowers. There is a rose garden that had some roses in bloom and we saw some areas with poppies but there were very few flowers. We have visited Gardens in every town and city we have visited in Europe and this garden is just lacking something.
