10 Things to Do in Denver That You Shouldn't Miss

December 2, 2017 Milan Banda

Denver (/ˈdɛnvər/), officially the City and County of Denver, is the capital and most populous municipality of the U.S. state of Colorado. Denver is in the South Platte River Valley on the western edge of the High Plains just east of the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains. The Denver downtown district is immediately east of the confluence of Cherry Creek with the South Platte River, approximately 12 mi (19 km) east of the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. Denver is nicknamed the Mile High City because its official elevation is exactly one mile (5280 feet or 1609.3 meters) above sea level, making it the highest major city in the United States. The 105th meridian west of Greenwich, the longitudinal reference for the Mountain Time Zone, passes directly through Denver Union Station.

Wonderful culinary/walking tour of Davidson. Our tour guide Teresa gave the history of the town, the college and several homes and church's as we walked. The restaurant owners were gracious -and served generous samples. Come hungry! We started at Brickhouse, then walked to The Famous Toastery, The Soda Shop, South Main Sweet Shop, Fuel Pizza and finally ending at Campania. Thank you Teresa!!

This is a relatively new (2015) county park along Little Creek off Lake Norman. In its current state, there are plenty of parking spots with a beautiful pavilion, very nice restroom facilities and a great playground. There is a short walking trail, partly paved and maybe half a mile all totaled, through the woods. The county put in a rustic woodsy outdoor classroom. I've seen birthday parties held in the pavilion with children really enjoying the playground equipment. The only negative I have is that the equipment is placed in a clearing with no shade and this equipment can get quite hot to climb on in the summer. I'd like to see at least a portion under cover so it can be enjoyed at any time of the year and day. Other than that, it was meant to be a passive park and it definitely meets that definition. The restroom building is very nice and the pavilion offers a very large eating area. I often see families enjoying the area, particularly in the cooler morning and late afternoon. The county opens the gates at sunrise and shuts them at sunset. Many folks use the walking path year round, as we have. I don't know if future improvements are planned to utilize the portion of land down to the water but currently no portion of the improved park area gives access to Little Creek unless one walks through the woods. It is a great place for us to take visiting grandchildren for an hour or so of playground fun. I'm pleased the county took the step to preserve this large parcel for current and future generations to enjoy.

Clean, friendly, relatively safe...
Prices are average considering what it provides.
However, understaffed, poorly managed....but management is over-tasked given the circumstances...so it's not management's fault.
Ticket machines always going xown...and staff are over-tasked and can'tfix machines...
Could be a lot better....but still enjoyable...FYI yhey only have two cashier stations and their process os too labor intensive. A customer should be entirely dealt with a touch screen system.

Lake Norman State Park

Reviewed By adventix - Boston, Massachusetts

We did the north section of the Lake shore trail (about 3 miles, loop). The trail is beautiful and well kept. Most of it is in the shade so this is a great trail for hot days. The trail is mostly wide with some uphill/downhill sections but nothing more than moderate difficulty. It took us about 2.5h with two small kids with several breaks. Be advised that there is no water available along the trail so bring enough with you.
