This museum exhibits highlights of many years of combing the Beaches. Items include boats and boat parts, parts of planes which crashed in WWII, barrel contents rusted together. There's a huge bottle collection. There was a story about a ship getting in a hurricane. Although it is amazing what one can find on the Beaches, it is still not as exciting as a good archeological collection.

We did one of the morning carriage rides and had a fantastic time. This is a must do when on the island for a few days and a great and natural way to see one of the most beautiful parts of Texel.
The staff was great and very friendly, the guide super knowledgable and with great humor! We learnt so much about the island on the way. One of us was in an electric wheelchair and the carriage is very well equipped to accommodate wheelchairs which is great. Just make sure to let the crew know when you book the trip and they will be ready to assist when you arrive.
International travelers, the narrative was in Dutch and not sure if they offer additional languages so that may be a bit of a challenge. You will undoubtedly enjoy the carriage ride, nature and Dutch hospitality though!

We booked online tickets for the ferry to travel to Texel and back. I was pleasantly surprised by how modern and accommodating the ferry was. The Seating area is comfortable, the self service restaurant is very clean and offers a nice selections of drinks and foods. You can also buy some souvenirs and there are folders available to prepare your stay at Texel. The toilets are very clean.
There is a digital playing area for the children, which was greeted with enthusiasm by the five children we were traveling with. But the best experience of all is of course the trip itself. The view on the surrounding sea, the sea gulls and the island of Texel approaching. Too bad the trip only takes about fifteen minutes.

Tessel island, the Dutch island is one of the best in the Netherlands. We visited this island in September month and it was quite warm outside. A perfect place for all ages, to play, enjoy and have fun with family and friends. Sea is not always that warm in the summer, but don't expect much from Dutch summer. It was so windy and sun was shining. Nice for sunbathing and testing the salty water of North Sea. Lots of activities including Skydiving if you dare to jump above the North Sea. A perfect destination for all time.

Tripadvisor ranks Ecomare as the top attraction to visit at Texel and I couldn't agree more with this top position. Ecomare is a center where wounded seals and porpoises are treated and after their recovery are released back into the wild. But the center is much more than this, it is an ideal place to learn more about these magnificent animals and the beautiful island of Texel. They also have a nice self service restaurant where you can enjoy some snacks and drinks. I really liked their pea soup!
Ecomare is an ideal place to spend an afternoon for young and old. Don't miss out on this one.

We rented a bike for about 6 hours and had a wonderful afternoon, stopping near the lighthouse for hot chocolate and to warm up our toes. It was hovering near 2-3 degrees during our stay and while riding the bike kept us warm, knowing we had a couple of options to stop - even on a quiet winter Sunday - made all the difference. Would definitely recommend a winter trip to Texel to see the dunes if you are lucky enough to get a dry, non-windy weekend like we had.

While we were on the Dutch barrier island of Texel, we thought we'd at least take a look at the local history museum. Often these places are a mishmash of local artifacts without much context. But we were very pleasantly surprised at the cultural history museum on Texel. It's not a slick professionally-groomed place, but also far more than a "just a collection of stuff." A homespun happy middle ground that provided context about the rural life on Texel a hundred years ago, particularly through videos. We spent much more time there than we had planned.

A nice walk in the woods close to the beach with a babystroller. It was good accessible and we really enjoyed the 'entertainment' on the way for the kids. Not too long and still a dcent walk (I think it was approx. one hour)
