With a little planning, I was given permission to fly into Dax airport and had the supreme pleasure of being met by the colonel, curator of the museum and shown around the facility. For the rotary enthusiast, this is a must see, the collection is well displayed and explained, the tour is hugely enjoyable made better by the delightful staff that look after you throughout you time at the museum. I'm already looking forward to going back.

Arenes de Dax

Dax is good for a day trip, we saw many statues beautifully made (ie "Ecarteur") and also ironwork sculptures in many Gardens and flower beds. We saw the Cathedral, walked around the ramparts and this bullring arena. Saw also the old thermal baths for which the town is famous.

La Fontaine Chaude de la Nehe

Reviewed By Jane C - Languedoc-Roussillon, France

La Fountaine Chaude is a hot water spring which has been known and valued for it's healing properties since Roman times. The Emperor Augustus brought his daughter here to treat her rhuemetism. Dax is reputed to be one of the most popular spa towns in France. The Fountaine Chaude is in the old town where many of the streets are pedestrianised. The water is very hot at about 64 degrees centigrade. It runs out at the end of the enclosure through lion's head spouts. Dont' let your children touch the water - we were very surprised how hot it is. The water flows into a square pool surrounded by walls. It's very interesting and picturesque.

Cathedrale Notre Dame

Reviewed By Jane C - Languedoc-Roussillon, France

We had a day out in Dax by train from Bayonne. It was a Sunday and we weren't sure what would be open. Took a taxi from the station and asked him to drop us at the Cathedral. There was a service when we went in with wonderful singing. The church was extremely full and after a few minutes enjoying the the choir we left. Whilst we waited for the service to finish we found a paper shop which sold town plans. The tourist info office was closed this Sunday in November. The Cathedral is built in the neo classical style. It is the last of 4 churches built on the same site. It has preserved a huge and very impressive 13th century door. It is large and covered highly carved. Also when we visited the storage area for several pine trees - ready for Christmas? It has a most impressive dome with a bright painting by Tastet, an artist from Bordeaux. All in all an impressive church. Worth a visit. We found a photocopied description in English. Not all French churches have such info.

Reviewed By Carolyn H - Herm, France

We've come here a few times for the live music in the restaurant. You have to check their schedule for dates and theme.
I would say that the food is ok and relatively inexpensive, so I suppose that makes it a good value. We also each got a credit of 5 euros to spend in the casino.
