Trounson Kauri Park

Reviewed By PRMCMUNN - Upper Hutt, New Zealand

This short walk through Kauri forest was unexpectedly beautiful and worthwhile. The track is mainly wide, well kept boardwalks in order to protect the forest and the fragile root system of the Kauri trees. The Kauri in this forest were striking and I could see how great a night walk in this forest would be as it is a convenient loop track and the ground growth is very open. I imagine it would be great to observe Kiwi.

Dargaville Rail & River Tours

Experience Dargaville surrounds from the comfort of a converted, self-drive Golf Cart.

Reviewed By Allgoodthyngs - Shrewsbury, United Kingdom

Climb into your converted buggy and put your pedal to the metal- but not until you've had your safety briefing which is short and to the point and mostly common sense but non-the-less essential to make sure everyone enjoys the ride.
No steering wheel required so kick back and relax. John and Dave our guides lead us along the now disused railway line that used to haul Kauri logs to the river. We stopped along the way and John explained the history of the track.
We miss so much these days by driving around in fast cars so it was great to take things a little slower in these converted gold carts and enjoy the fresh air and see some beautiful scenery. John and Dave took the lead and gave us clear hand signals as well as spoken instructions via walkie-talkie as to when to slow down or stop so no worries there.
Bonus at the half way point when Dave produced a picnic basket with the most delicious freshly made scones from his bakery and hot tea and coffee. A comfort stop to with ladies and gents and hand washing facilities. Be sure to take time to chat with the guys and learn about their passion for their rail carts project.
Would recommend that you phone ahead and book to avoid disappointment. Excellent value for money and discount for over 65's offered.
Cant recommend this jaunt too highly- just go along and have fun!

Having been advised by folk in the know that Ernie was a 'local - hero' and worth a visit, we were fired up to go and see him. Our several phone calls were unanswered, our enquiry, in person, to the Tourist Information Office drew a blank, we were advised that the attraction might or might not be open and that we should take a drive past to see if there was any sign of life. There as not.
Moan: Tourist 'attractions' should display the fact that they are either 'open' or ' closed' and let people know by leaving a message on an answerphone. Otherwise potential visitors might get the idea, perish the thought, that they're dealing with amateurs.
