Virginia Creeper Trail

A bike trail challenging to both beginners and experts.

Just finished up the VCT from Alvarado to Abingdon. This part of the trail is a little better maintained than the Damascus to Whitetop stretch. If you go from Alvarado to Abingdon, expect to pedal b/c there is an up hill grade. The scenery is a little different on this stretch some mountain scenes, some open rolling hills.

Backbone Rock Waterfall

Reviewed By NCkimb - North Carolina Mountains, North Carolina

A very short hike up to a gorgeous waterfall. The hike itself was short in distance but I wouldn't consider it an easy one. The information that I received at the Tennessee welcome center rated it as easy. We had two 40 yr olds, 4 kids (ages 8-14) and 2 grandmothers. The grandmothers started the hike but turned back pretty quickly. It was somewhat slippery and a little steeper than they were comfortable with. The rest of us however loved it. The scenery was gorgeous. The whole area however is beautiful even if one decides not do the hike. The walk down to the water is easy to access and is breathtaking. The huge rock tunnel is also quite beautiful.

Shuttle Shack

SHUTTLE SHACK is the only family owned and operated Bike rentals and shuttle services in Damascus VA for the VA CREEPER TRAIL Family fun for all ages.....

Reviewed By Steven D - Richmond, Virginia

We used the Shuttle Shack based on the Trip Advisor reviews. The excellent reviews are right on the money. We received excellent service, well-maintained bikes, water, helmets and an easy ride up to White Top Station. Everything was just as advertised on their website.

The check-in process was quick, easy and smooth. The Shuttle Shack is a 1/4 of a mile away from the busiest part of town and the busiest bike shops. For us, this meant a non-congested, quick & easy return of our bikes at the end of our ride. The other shops we passed were jammed with renters. We are glad we rented from the Shuttle Shack and we will be back.

Abingdon Vineyard & Winery

We are a small Virginia Farm Winery located in Abingdon on the far southwest side of Virginia near the Tri-Cities of Bristol, Johnson City and Kingsport, TN. We acquired 53 acres of land in this beautiful area and thought we would do something to keep us healthy, active and creating something. We began planning our 10 acre vineyard in 1997; planted our first 500 plants in 1998 and completed our 6000 plants by 2001. Our main grape varieties are: Cabernet Franc, Riesling, Chardonel, Traminette, Pinot Noir, Norton, Chambourcin, Viognier. Our first fermentation began with our year 2000 harvest. We have a pleasant, rustic atmosphere. We opened our tasting room June 1, 2001, and are now open from March 15 to December 15, Tues-Sat,10am-6pm AND Sundays 12-6pm. We are closed every Monday and Thanksgiving during that time span. Come try our wines and enjoy the quiet serenity of the area and friendly, comfortable hospitality.

We drove up to the winery while we were camping nearby. What a delightful place and people! The property itself is beautiful! My wife did a wine tasting while I browsed the gift area. We spoke with the owner who was conducting my wife's tasting and he was very nice. He shared the history/founding of the winery and the wines themselves. We found some nice things to take home and my wife bought a wine she liked.

The property was beautiful, babbling brook and all. It was a very tranquil setting and we didn't want to leave....

I highly recommend you visit if you are near here...
