We visited Colma Historical Museum. I met two of the staff members and they were very nice and answered any questions I have.
There are both exhibits in the museum as well as an exhibit on the historical Colma Railroad Station and tracks.
San Francisco often tries to dictate how others live in the San Francisco Bay Area.
As such, it decided Colma would be its burial ground. There are numerous cemeteries including a pet cemetery.
The museum goes over this and also has the list of famous people and which cemetery they are buried at. There is also a pet cemetery in Colma.
The railroad station was used to bring people and also the bodies from San Francisco to Colma for burial.
The museum also covers more than this major aspect of Colma. There is an exhibit on home life, typewriters, and local history. I liked seeing the headline on the great snow storm in the Bay Area in the 1960s. There is also exhibits of the role of Colma in the war efforts. There are other exhibits as well.
The outside depot, tracks and blacksmith shop is interesting to see. There is a picnic ground with vista views of the San Bruno mountains and the local cemeteries.
The museum is free and there is free parking on site. Do check the hours they are open.
While the museum is small, its an interesting museum to see in the San Francisco Bay Area. Its off the beaten track....but is rich in history.

We went to Bad Axe Throwing for a work team offsite. Can't wait til I can go again w/ my friends! Employee Izzy was my group's guide. She was informative, cheerful and relaxed and provided us with a nice intro to Axe Throwing. We warmed up, then played some games. Super fun experience and definitely a good team building event.

Just a few minutes south of the border of San Francisco, you will find Thornton Beach Vista and from there the Thornton Beach State Park. The little parking lot at the vista point is easily accessible from Skyline Boulevard. I walked to the edge of the pedestrian vista point in chilly Peninsula wind and fog only to be rewarded with an amazing view of the Pacific Ocean shoreline. Even in fog, the view was spectacular. I can only imagine how breathtaking this view would be on a sunny clear day! I must return to see this vista view on another day. I highly recommend visiting the Thornton Beach State Park and Vista to experience an expansive view of the majestic Pacific Ocean shoreline.

I was really surprised the tomb wasn't featured in Tripadvisor and immediately sought to add it! For the history buffs among you who never heard of an American Emperor, here's the short story:
Joshua Norton was once a wealthy San Francisco businessman who lost his entire fortune in the 1850s and disappeared from the scene until September 17, 1859, when he publicly declared himself "Norton I, Emperor of the United States", and later, "Protector of Mexico". By then Mr. Norton was quite insane, however the good folk in San Francisco encouraged him and played along with his numerous public decrees on matters of public policy and his own currency which was accepted around town.
The city furnished him with a uniform, he received free tickets to concerts and theaters and ate for free in many restaurants in the city. In the 1870 national census, Norton's occupation was officially listed as "emperor." with a note that claims he is insane.
On January 8, 1880, Norton collapsed at a street corner and died. 10,000 mourners visited his body in state, and he was buried at the city's expense in the Masonic Cemetery, and later transferred to Woodlawn Cemetery, in Colma. The site is marked by a large stone inscribed "Norton I, Emperor of the United States and Protector of Mexico."
Author Neil Gaiman incorporated him in his Sandman graphic novels, and there is still a lot of information available on Emperor Norton online. Woodland Cemetery has a giveaway map available in the office which highlights the location of his grave. You can drive all the way up and park right besides it.
A nice historic detour on your way in and out of San Francisco.

We stopped for a few hours to let my boys enjoy the beach one last time before heading home. $5.00 for 4 hours of parking, seemed reasonable to us. It wasn't over crowded. Bathrooms near by are a little run down but I was glad they were close by. It was fun watching the surfers.

An essential stop for anyone with an interest in the old west. My father certainly does, when searching for info on a trip to Tombstone for him I discovered to my great surprise that one of his heroes was buried in the SF bay area. It was fun to spring a quick side-trip to Hills of Eternity on him as we headed off on a weekend down Rte 1. The office at the entrance has a helpful map to the grave site and short history of Earp's life & times.

We went out for an hour without having made any reservations. No helmets were offered, and the horses seemed a bit tired. The area could have been better taken care of and it was a bit difficult getting there without your own car. It was a nice ride though, but it did not feel like a place that shouold cater to tourists.

We used this company for one day during our recent trip to Napa Valley. There were 7 of us. The limo was 30 minutes late picking us up from our hotel in San Francisco which meant we were late for our first wine reservation. Our driver did not know how to get any of the wineries even the ones on our itinerary. We had to pull up the places on our phones and use our gps to give him turn by turn directions. When we had time before the next winery reservation and would ask if we could stop at one we saw from the road he wouldn't answer us. Also, for one winery we wanted to go to and told him how to get there, he passed it and wouldn't turn around to go back to it. On the way back to our hotel, he took the longest way, so they could charge us more money. Then our contract said we were to get two bottles of champagne and tried to charge us for the second one. We hired this limo service so we could have a laid back time in Napa. We didn't get to be laid back. We had to keep making sure we were going the correct way to the wineries to make sure we made our reservations. Do not use this company. Save your self from the headache. They kept trying to charge us for the extra time it took the driver to get us back to our hotel. We felt like he was taking advantage of us.

We see SB Mountain from our kitchen window. Only by accident (looking at a bike map) did I realize it's a parti with hiking trails, etc. The park abuts the city line, easy access and parking, trails long and short, challenging and easy. Great views of the city AND we saw a golden eagle!
