What can I say about this place that hasn't already been said? It's pure Heaven for both motorcycle and motorhead enthusiast alike!
The only thing I can add to the already excellent reviews is that I got a chance to meet the great granddaughter of George Wagner, the owner of The Wagner Motorcycle Company (1901-1914). Clara Wagner, George's daughter and this woman's grandmother was a pioneer in women's motorcycling. She was the first documented woman motorcyclist. Certainly meeting a descendant of this family was a highlight of my trip.
Truth is.... I can't wait to go back to see the many things I'm sure I missed the first time through this trip back in time.

Sri Somesvara Temple

Reviewed By KASIRAO5646 - Hyderabad, India

Sri Someshwara Temple situated at Mount Soma in North Carolina, USA is one of the fine temples I have visited in this country. Sri Someshwara Temple is dedicated to Lord Siva and is an authentic Veda temple. The other deities found are Lord Ganapathi, Navagrahas, Karthikeya.

Located in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Western North Carolina, Sri Somesvara Temple is a Vedic Shiva temple at the center of Mount Soma. This temple is open seven days a week from 9.30 am to 1.30 pm and again from 3.30 pm to 7.30 pm.
Harathi is given to Lord at 7.00 pm daily.

Apart from the above, there is Hanuman Park just behind the Siva temple and a Mahanandi Park, a little distance away facing the temple. There is also a Visitor Center with Meditation Hall. At a half mile distance, their is Ganga Park, where Two Shiv Lings are found on which a stream of water flows continuously. This is a good place to visit. One has to walk down to this place since no vehicles are allowed here.

Mount Soma itself is a beautiful location amidst mountains. The location is best known as a non-denominational retreat and spiritual destination center. Many visitors come here for meditation and for spiritual happiness.

Overall, Mount Soma and Sri Someshwara Temple is a must visit place to enjoy the natural beauty of the Blue Ridge mountains and the Vedic Siva temple.

Cataloochee Valley

Reviewed By InConstantPursuit - Atlanta, Ga.

Let's start off by saying Cataloochee Valley isn't Cherokee, Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, Wears Valley or Wayland. Cataloochee is backcountry. This is where the Park Service released the first Elk back in 2000. And for good reason... it's isolated.

The Park Service warns about the drive into Cataloochee Valley and I agree. Cove Creek road starts off as a narrow, winding, blacktop that courses through rural North Carolina mountain neighborhoods. The road makes a sharp and upward U-turn and then switches to dirt and gravel. The road narrows and there are blind curves. A careless mistake with driving might plunge you over the edge to hundreds of feet down the mountain side. There are no guardrails! This is primitive. Once you top a hill and enter the Park there is still a couple of miles dirt/gravel road before you get to pavement.

Cataloochee Valley is... Pristine! Expect to see Elk. Expect to see Turkey. I'm always on the watch for Bear but did not see one this visit. Visit and tour the buildings preserved from when Cataloochee was a thriving farming and apple growers community. Hike Boogerman Trail! Fish Cataloochee Creek.

Bring stuff with you e.g., water, coffee, tea, soft drinks, snacks and food. It's a long drive back down to the nearest store. So, come prepared.

Highly Recommend!!

Panther Creek Outfitters

Reviewed By MrsT215 - Macon, Georgia

On a weekend "girls' trip" to the Maggie Valley area, my sister, aunt, two nieces (ages 13 and 8) and I were looking for a place to take the younger girls horseback riding. There were many highly recommended facilities in the area, but most offered only full- or half-day rides, which was more time than we wanted to spend. A Google search led us to Panther Creek Outfitters, which offered one-hour rides for $25 per person, which was ideal. According to the website, the "2015 5-Star Best in Industry Rated Business" could be found "conveniently located just off I-40," which actually turned out to be a 45 minute drive up winding roads to a very remote, sparsely populated area of Pisgah Forest.

Perhaps we were naive, but we had envisioned a quiet, well-tended mountain farm with a stable of well-cared-for horses and corral where trained experts would lead the girls around while we watched from the sidelines. Instead, we drove up to what can best be described as a junkyard, littered with all manner of garbage, debris, old appliances and rusting vehicles. Four ancient, dirty, skeletal horses were tied to a rickety fence post with rope too short to allow them to graze. It was heartbreaking.

Our guide was better fed, but otherwise his appearance matched that of the horses. He offered no friendly welcome, but kept his head down and spoke very little. When I asked him where they would ride, his response was, "Oh, we ride about a mile up the mountain to an old Civil War cabin." I still cannot believe this man thought we would allow two little girls to ride off with him alone up into the mountains to any sort of cabin, historic or otherwise. So I immediately forked over another $25 to ride with them. He never asked us about our riding experience, just put the three of us on horses, handed us the ropes (no reigns, just rope), and told us to "pull this way to go right, and this way to go left." The eight-year-old was terrified... It was her first time riding, and she did not have sufficient experience to be expected to safely guide and control a strange horse that was much too large for her. At my request, our guide agreed to lead her.

We got off to a slow start. The poor horses were so hungry that once free from their short tethers, they were desperate to graze. Ultimately, though, it was a fairly nice ride. The scenery was lovely and, as it turns out, the Civil War-era cabin was an interesting destination. We also discovered that our guide was quite nice and knowledgeable about the history of the area, although some of the historical "facts" included references to murder and rape that were a bit inappropriate for his young audience.

Our visit to Panther Creek Outfitters was certainly memorable and not entirely unpleasant, but not one I would care to repeat. The remote location and conditions we found made us feel uneasy, enough so my sister called her husband and kept him on the phone until we were safely on our way back down the mountain. Unfortunately, there was very little information and virtually no reviews online to help us make a more informed decision, and the PCO website paints a less than accurate picture of what we experienced there. I hope future travelers will find this review helpful.

It snowed the night before so good for natural snow and skiing, but not as good for getting up the mountain to ski. It got a little scary ( for me) going up, but we made it. The parking lot attendant said not the worry - with the sun and everything the road would be bare going back down ( and it was). I had found a deal that was awesome - free skiing lesson ( no I do not ski), equipment and lift ticket all fro $59! There were 3 of s getting the lesson ( the man with with had only one 1 ( himself) in his free boarding lesson. Our instructor - Sandi was very encouraging and patient and we enjoyed her lesson. The lesson lasted 90 minutes and started at 9:30. They have a started hill with a "magic carpet" that takes you up the little hill for the lesson. We took the first lesson of the day and it was a week day. After the lesson I spent the rest of the gorgeous day, but cold one ( 22 and sunny) on the "easy" hill. The car lift was not busy and made for lots of runs down the hill. If there were more than a fw waiting to go down - I would wait. I wanted the hill with as few people as possible - less chance of collision. I don't know much about ski areas, but as the day progressed the snow underneath was more like ice pellets and I began to slide more. The deal allowed us to ski from 9-4 and we were all done around 3:00. The road was bare going down as promised. I hope to be able to do this again next year. It was lots of fun. The earlier in the day the better. Gear - you first have to get your ticket, then your boots. Those are in the same building. Your skis are picked up across the street. Locker rental for your shoes in 75 cents in the boot area. ( Once locker is opened again you will have to pay 75 cents again to re-lock) There is a plan to eat there, but we did not. It is about 4 miles from the road in town to the top of the hill. There is really not much parking at the top - at least I did not think so.)
