Chadstone prides itself on being the fashion capital, which it probably is, although I was very disappointed on three visits and not being able to find that special occasion outfit. However, I probably won't ever go there again because of the dangerous car park and curbs. In an underground car park, not brightly lit, an elderly person, had a fall on a curb which was not painted, breaking a bone - followed by a paramedic who came to transport the patient also tripping in the same place. This is really serious stuff !! More lights in underground car park and painting of ALL curbs please Chadstone before more people lose their independence, or heaven forbid, their life.

Jells Park

Away from the hustle and bustle of urban life, Jells Parks has over nine kilometres of paths and trails and 127 hectares of wide open spaces. There are many barbeque and picnic areas. So relax under the shade of the Pines, enjoy the lake views at the Elms, or watch the children enjoy the playground at Stringybark or Yabbie Hill. The main Dandenong Creek Trail runs north-south through Jells Park. All paths are multi-use so you can take your choice of cycling, jogging, or simply strolling. As you pass through wetlands and billabongs, take a look at the variety of native bird life. Jells Lake is a beautiful man-made feature with a variable water level that flows from the Dandenong Creek. Its main purpose is conservation, so no boating or canoeing is allowed. Fishing in Jells Lake is permitted only from the two larger jetties. A valid Recreational Fishing Licence is required. No fishing is allowed within the conservation area. Vehicle access is from Ferntree Gully Road or Waverley Road. Enter by foot along the Dandenong Creek Trail or Scotchmans Creek Trail. Jells Park is open all year with 24 hour pedestrian access. Hours of entry for vehicles vary between gates and times of year. From Waverley Road gates open at 8am. Dogs are allowed in Jells Park on leash at all times.

Jells Park is very large for a suburban reserve and has a wonderful lake together with a few areas of unspoilt native vegetation, including some strands of melaleuca, ironbarks and other eucalypts plus plenty of reeds by teh lake's edge.
I saw numerous birds including aggressive noisy miners, tuneful Australian magpies, eurasian coots and various ducks on the water, many little wattlebirds, a pelican and an Australian white egret, tiny brown thornbills and most enjoyably of all, feeding on the grass were quite a few Eastern rosellas (parrots), corellas, galahs and sulphur crested cockatoos.
The toilets in the dated visitor centre were clean, but need refurbishment.
I did not like the Elm trees and some other introduced species that were in Jells Park: these have no place.
While I'm sure that on weekends it gets busy, one might question why government run Parks Victoria does not undertake more native revegetation. There are far too many open grassy areas that provide a lack of species cover, or protection against feral cats and foxes.
Despite the huge amount of taxation revenue that the current Victorian State Government collects, I did not see a single Parks Victoria ranger anywhere.
Generally where these reserves are run by private sector organisations such as Australian Wildlife Conservancy, they are better managed and the number of native species increases due to predator proof fences being erected.
This has not occurred at Jells Park, so one wonders at night how many feral cats and foxes roam.
It was also most inappropriate to observe dogs being allowed. While they were all on leashes, they are still a disturbance to native fauna and flora, and some owners fail to clean up after their dogs.
The route 754 bus runs about every half hour on weekdays, but only every hour on weekends. It connects at Glen Waverley railway station with Metro trains to and from Richmond and Flinders Street.

Tranquil parkland with original pristine vegetation prior to "suburbanisation". Adventure playground to delight even the adults. Educational with discreet plaques explaining the flora & fauna. Secluded oasis in suburbia - very inviting place to walk with little meandering goat trails & Bridges over creek that winds through the reserve. So glad to have discovered it and rates as one of my favourite place to walk within city of Monash.

Monash Uni is a modern university but if you visit the Clayton campus there re lots of little place full of interest. Go to the main building: Menzies, not far from Wellington Rd. (Parking is not bad, but paid.) To the southwest there is a beautiful, but tiny, bit of rainforest. Other items, which you will probably have to ask about, are: one of the best sundials in the world, the Foucault pendulum, the kangaroos on campus, the disastrous ruins of the collapse of the Westgate bridge. There are also significant sculptures around including ones by Clifton Pugh and Inge King−but again you will have to ask.

Our little Caravan

There is something peaceful about stepping through the door here.
It's a wonderful combination of vintage craft, a calm tranquil place to craft and chat, and a friendly cafe - Inchmeal. Inchmeal means little by little which is just how I am exploring this little gem.
My children ran straight out the back door to explore Mabel the vintage caravan and were fascinated when it was open and they could investigate its beauty.
Mabel is a beautiful creative party and craft venue run by a welcoming and friendly qualified teacher (Christina) who has a natural way with children.
The shop and cafe are child friendly - there is a basket of toys to play with and with the fully enclosed yard children can play. The craft work on display is stunning and a great place to pick up something for someone who is hard to buy for, something handmade with love.
It's so peaceful and a lovely place to browse sipping coffee and to escape the busy world of shopping in a shopping centre.
I have torn up my coffee card for a well known drive through and have exchanged it for the Inchmeal card - coffee is good, Anne is really friendly and it's walking distance from Monash Uni, CSIRO and just off Ferntree Gully Road.

Australian National Aviation Museum

The Museum is one of the oldest volunteer run Museums, with a collection of over 50 aircraft and engines and many relics. This is the most complete and important collection of Australian built aircraft, with some examples being the oldest surviving ones in the world

Reviewed By Ray F - Adelaide, South Australia, Australia

located at Moorabbin Airport, their collection is in three buildings plus around their grounds. Amongst the aircraft inside are a Firefly & a Sea Venom with open cockpits; Auster, Mirage & a WW2 Beaufighter. There are Information panels about the Australian Flying Corps & famous Australian aviators from that era, the story of the German raider SMS Wolf raider that operated around Australia & was supported by a sea plane, and of the Royal Flying Doctors Service. There is also a DC-9 simulator. Scattered around the yard are other aircraft many still undergoing restoration including a Canberra bomber, Douglas DC-3, Bristol Freighter, Westland Wessex & Bell Kiowa helicopters, Fairey Gannet, Gloster Meteor & a CAC Sabre. There was also Vickers Viscount that was open for inspection. Staff were friendly & informative. They have a small gift & memorabilia shops. Plan on spending at least 1 hour.
