Chivay is a town in the Colca valley, capital of the Caylloma province in the Arequipa region, Peru. Located at about 12,000 ft above sea level, it lies upstream of the renowned Colca Canyon. It has a central town square and an active market. Ten km to the east, and 1,500 metres above the town of Chivay lies the Chivay obsidian source.

The newest extreme adventure in the Colca Canyon is a must-do while visiting this natural wonder. Only 5 minutes away from Chivay, next to "La Calera" hot Springs. A series of increasingly exciting rides can be combined with some rock climbing. Courses range between 2000 and 6500 feet at speeds of 50-70 MPH. All this in beautiful scenery, with breathtaking views and friendly company. Fun for all ages!
Three different zip lines across the canyon. Great fun and felt perfectly safe. Would recommend a visit to the thermal baths just 300m away afterwards.Hello Sue! We stayed in a nearby hotel and visited Uyo uyo by walking. I would not drive far and make a detour. If you are around, its worth visiting this place and understand the theories around its history and (more beautiful) enjoy the view through the valley from Uyo uyo.

We spent no more than 90 minutes here, soaking up the warm water does have a time limit. There are two sections, one for the locals and one for the tourists. The tourist one has changing rooms, showers (you're expected to shower before you enter) and a little shop that sells cold beer and there are changing rooms.
The fabulous photos online must have been taken by professionals because I just couldn't capture the awesomeness that everyone elses pics seem to have.
Not wheelchair friendly. Kid friendly. Good parking.

The local people set up stalls for the tourists and locals dance in the square in the mornings. As night after the tourists have gone it is a sleepy place where you can really see what it is like to live here,

I can't recommend the Planetarium and Observatory in Chivay highly enough. Edgar & Luis are both very friendly and knowledgeable. They are keen to answer any questions and make the whole experience welcoming, fun and educational. The visit stars with a 20 minute insight the constellations followed by admiring through the telescopes the constellations, planets and our own moon. The highlight for me was seeing Saturn and it's rings. I was the only person at my visit and nothing was too much trouble at all, the weather was kind and overall I was extremely pleased and would advise any Colca Canyon visitor to call by and support this great venture.

OK. Yes it felt good but so does a hot shower. This is basically a hot pool (it is a pool) to soak in. Nothing miraculous about it. Also nothing natural. If you've seen natural hot Springs, this is not it. But if you like hot tubs after a long day, sure, why not!

The 18th century Church of our Lady of the Assumption is a typical example of a simple baroque church built during the copper and silver mine boom in the Colca valley. It dominates one side of the Plaza de Armas, with its twin, white washed bell towers. Inside there is more decoration but it still has a simple charm about it. The main altar has a number of alcoves displaying various saints. The saints are no more that overly dressed dolls. You can wander in for a service in the evenings when it gets surprisingly busy for such a small town.
