10 Things to do in Chincoteague Island That You Shouldn't Miss

May 12, 2022 Kandra Bartel

Wild horses can actually drag you away…to Chincoteague Island. Here, ponies run wild, you can catch or dig up your own seafood, and the beaches bring literal breaths of fresh air. The Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge is a wonderfully unspoiled spot for bird watching, horseback riding, swimming and biking. Every summer since 1925, all of the feral ponies on Assateague are rounded up for the world-famous annual Pony Swim over to Chincoteague.

I visited on the second to last Sat they were open. Not too many vendors, but I was able to spend over $40 so I would say they had all that I and my friends needed. The vendor with the shopping bags made out of feed bags was there. I had purchased 2 in Sept, and 2 more this visit. White Ravins Market was there and we were able to thank them for the wonderful Smith Island cake that I had purchased from their store. We also bought their crab cakes and tomato pie and pumpkin role. Freshly shucked oysters were also purchased and brought home and fried. Very delicious. I could go on and on. A fun place to shop.
