Catedral de Chillan

It's earthquake resistant, undecorated for a South American church..unusual. It's one of those designs that you like or not.

Nevados de Chillan Bike Park

Reviewed By antonilla

Parque Monumental Bernardo O'Higgins

Reviewed By CarlosBaires - Buenos Aires, Argentina

Reviewed By Wholightsthestars - Santiago, Chile

Nice lifts and slopes, but unfortunately not enough snow at this time of year. According to locals it is usually better, the season lasting until October. On the other hand, it was warm and sunny and the view from the hills was magnificent.

The Plaza de Armas is the symbolic heart of the city. It is especially beautiful in spring when the trees are flowering and the plaza is full of a faint perfume.

Escuela Mexico

Reviewed By C S - Seattle

Wow! Must see this if you are in Chillan. Murals in hallway and library (which is one big room) with walls and ceiling painted by Mexican muralist David Alfaro Siqueiros. "Muerte al invasor" (Death to the invaders) One shows an Aztec emperor shooting arrows at a cross, symbolizing the anger of the native people at the imposition of the religious invasion. It is quite moving to see, taking up an entire wall and part of the ceiling. There is an attendant who provided me with a written explanation of the murals (in English).

Museo Claudio Arrau Leon

Reviewed By C S - Seattle

Only a couple of rooms--one with personal items collected by the musician (odd furniture, instruments, artifacts), the other with "interactive exhibits" including a light-driven piano, a huge guitar you can stand inside to hear the acoustics, and a computer program set up to play different instrument sounds. There is a volunteer who takes you through the personal items and explains the life of the musician. It is worth seeing if you are in the area and have 30 min to an hour to spare. The verbal history was essential to appreciating the museum. No fee but a tip is expected (I didn't know how much so I just asked -- 5,000 pesos ($8 USD)

Valle de Aguas Calientes

Reviewed By Pierre W - Brussels, Belgium

There are 50, 100 hot Springs, they form warm streams ! In a remote mountain Valleys, 3 hours hike from the developed hot Springs in Termas de Chillan (2 busses a day go as far as the hotel, 1500 meters below). You can also go through the ski slopes, and climb the volcano as a not too difficult detour on the way. You should camp at the Valle de Aguas Calientes. In December, it is right at the snow line.
Another trail descends on the other side of the valley. You can reach in one day the other hot Springs, Los Peucos, in the Reserva Nacional Nuble. Very remote.
