10 Things to Do in Callantsoog That You Shouldn't Miss

August 21, 2017 Jeremy Dunfee

Callantsoog (West Frisian: Kallantsouge) is a town in the Dutch province of North Holland. It is a part of the municipality of Schagen, and lies about 18 km south of Den Helder. Callantsoog was a separate municipality until 1990, when it was merged with Zijpe. Since 1990, the area of Callantsoog had made part of the municipalities of Zijpe, Den Helder, and Anna Paulowna. In 2012, Anna Paulowna has become part of the new municipality of Hollands Kroon, and in 2013, Zijpe merged with Schagen into the new municipality of Schagen. For that reason the area of Callantsoog has made part of the municipalities of Schagen, Den Helder and Hollands Kroon since 2013.

A fantastic piece of nature, butterflies, wild orchids, birds. There are 2 paths to follow. We took the largest. Be aware when you decide to walk here later in the evening because of the mosquito's (no problem at day time).
There's a little fee at the entrance but it doesn't accept card or bills (a bit strange) which was a little problem because we were a family of 6. So take coins with you. It has a little toilet at the start. Otherwise no bathroom facilities.

Reasonably priced outdoor environment with basoc snacks and good coffee available. Definitely worth a visit for animal lovers.

We enjoyed exploring this park with our two young children and another family. We were able to experience everything in less than two hours. The kids spent most of the time on the tractor bikes. They loved it! Worth a visit if you come when the tulip fields are blooming. The drive up was spectacular!

They have done a wonderful job with the widening of the beach there. The view from there is spelbinding with the waves beating onto the beach, the forever blowing wind in your face and the endless beach from Petten to as far as the eye can see and then of course the North Sea with its low lying and moving clouds. A forever changing and captivating scenery.

Good and nice cinema. Everything is really clean, enough choice for food and drinks, the atmosphere is great and the interior is nice. It's not really big but that's exactly the thing what I love about this cinema. There are enough movies during the week you can watch.

The beauty of Floratuin is that it is of the beaten track.
Floratuin offers a fair selection of bulbs of all kinds and has very friendly staff to assist.
A stop worth visiting if you want to buy some of the bulbs at very reasonable costs.

Marinemuseum

The museum covers part of the site of the former Royal Dutch Naval Dockyards, and includes main building with exhibits, films and artefacts relating to the function of the the dockyard and the associated vessels. There is a former navy submarine to visit, a battleship, minelayer/minesweeper, and the bridge and towers of a more recent naval vessel.
Be prepared to climb steps and go down narrow passageways, especially on the submarine.
Altogether a very good day visit.

Because of the succes from the first room, we build a second Escape Room ''Mental''. In this room you will enter a psychiatric institution. With all the tension will you be able to Escape the Room?

This was my first experience of an escape room and I don't think it will be my last.
The room was interesting and great fun.
We completed the room with 5 minutes to spare (with the tension and pressure building) with a few helpful hints.
Our host was very friendly and added to the overall experience.
The Under Attack room can be done in English and language was no barrier.

The "Automuseum Schagen" isn't a big one, but nice to see.
Several cars, from a T-Ford to a DAF and an Jaguar E-type. Lots of signs and emblems. The entrance is free, but they appreciate a donation on your way out.
Open on Sundays from 1300-1600.
