We met some of our family here for a birthday party and the young kids had a blast. There is plenty to keep them busy and wear them out! Older kids have less to do do, but still got pretty tired. Thanks so much, hope to see you again soon.

Katahdin Ironworks State Historical Site

Reviewed By ccindyk48 - Westville, Indiana

This is a State Historic Site on the road to the Gulf Hagas Trail in Northern Maine.
It's right across the road from the check in station. You're required to use the check in station, even if you're visiting the state historical site. I'm not sure if they make you pay the day use fee.

There's a couple of brick buildings left of the massive ironworks site that was big in the late 1800s, early 1900s. There's some information boards to tell you what was going on & what you're seeing today. Somewhat interesting. Not a lot there to keep you occupied for longer than 20 minutes.

Fantastic location as sun is setting. The hills and small ponds make it one of a kind. Large old grave markers and lots of Civil War participants and monuments.

Geaghan Brothers Brewing Company recently opened a tasting room at their Brewer brewery. The interior is remarkable -- a converted, vast, open warehouse space that manages to make you feel like you're in your own private pub.

Knowledgeable, friendly staff provide expert, informed recommendations on some of the best local craft beer you can buy.

Thursdays are flight night, and get you three dollars off a growler filled with fresh beer.

I highly recommend this new spot for locals and those visiting the Down East region.

This review is for the downtown Bangor location. Great location, great service and 6 types of IPAs - YAY!!! They have tasty beers. The only real food besides chips is pizza and we shudder to think how long it had been sitting there. Tasty but not recommended. She were there 6pm and the slices looked like they had been there since 11am. Small slices as well.

Anyone else, will find this place interesting as all get out. Huge selection of interesting looking polished rocks, stones, gems, etc Most have informative cards and signs detailing interesting facts about them.

Highly recommended, get the kids away from the chain toy stores and off the iPad for a couple hours and into this cool place.

Before my visit to Xtreme Adventures, I had never been on a ropes course, a zip line, or a 35-foot giant swing! I went with a couple of co-workers and we had a great time! Before you step onto the course, you go through "ground school" where the employees show you how to clip and unclip yourself from the safety lines throughout the course. You work in a buddy system, getting permission to switch lines and verifying before moving onto the next obstacle. We did the lower level, which is maybe 15-20 feet off the ground (someone correct me if I'm wrong) and it was interesting. Some of the obstacles were easier than others, but if you take your time there shouldn't be any problems. I would not recommend this to someone who is afraid of heights or those without at least a little upper body strength - you will likely be sore the next day. The upper level looked a bit more intense, with more tight wires to cross, so we opted to skip that this time. :)

After we did the lower level, we took a go on the zip lines! It was a blast! While you're not being zipped through the rain forest or over a mountain like some vacation destination ziplines, it was still awesome! :) The staff made me feel safe and secure in my harness. We zipped across to the far platform and then back to a platform near the ropes course. They're currently in the process of constructing additional lines (at least one is higher off the ground!) so I will definitely be returning to try those out!

After the zipline, I decided to try the giant swing! I saw a bunch of younger kids do it with ease, so I figured it'd be a cinch! It was a bit nerve-wracking sitting on that platform, but once you get the nerve to "fall" off, it's so awesome! The line didn't jerk me around like I thought it might when it caught me from a freefall - it was a nice smooth ride.

We finished up with another quick zip on the ziplines and called it a day. Overall, a great experience and I will definitely be returning! I recommend checking Groupon beforehand, might be able to snack a 2-for-1 deal like we did! :)
