Bochum (German pronunciation: [ˈboːxʊm] ( listen); Westphalian: Baukem) is a city in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany and part of the Arnsberg region. It is located in the Ruhr area and is surrounded by the cities (in clockwise direction) of Herne, Castrop-Rauxel, Dortmund, Witten, Hattingen, Essen and Gelsenkirchen. With a population of nearly 365,000, it is the 16th most populous city in Germany. Bochum is a part of the Rhine-Ruhr metropolitan area.

Good selection of shops but in the bad weather and winter time it not as nice as an indoor shopping center. It is missing Karstad and some of the shops are quite small. Indoor foodcourt with different style restaurants. Clean and free toilets. Lots of parking space. Saturday is a rush. Day time Friday was very good time to visit!

The botanical garden has been a refreshing companion at the time of my studies in Bochum. There is not a particular spot I would recommend. Just walking around down the hill to the lake is beautiful. There are many signs to illustrate the plants and recently Q codes have been added to access online material about the place.

My Grandfather used to work in a coal mine for 20 years, so a visit to this museum was
a great honor for me.
The tunnels, the machines, everything were amazing, driving us back to the "black" years my opa had described us so many times.
I will be back...

We saw a performance with music from Pink Floyd and this was a wonderful and very professionally done. Of all the many (and excellent) attractions in Bochum, this is my favourite and is also excellent value for money. It's clean, comfortable and the staff are helpful and friendly and I would certainly recommend the Planetarium to anyone of any age. It's educational, fun and enjoyable and great for both adults and children.

The park has smaller animals, including meercats, various birds, giant tortoises, seals, and penguins. The goats in the petting zoo area were extremely calm and clean. Despite having visited multiple zoos, my two middle school children enjoyed this place; we were there for about 2 1/2 hours.

the local brewery offers a guided tour, explaining the history of the brewery and the process to create different beers. It includes different beers tasting. At the end of the tour the guide takes you to an inside resto/bar where a typical german saussage&curry meal is offered (careful cause it is quite spicy) and you are free to order other different kinds of beers.
I would recommend to call first cause as fasr as I know English tours are not given everyday, so if u dont speak German you should ask about this before going.

Together with some friends, I visited the 'Nazi art' exhibition, Artige Kunst. It was a very interesting exhibition, because of the juxtaposition between Artige and so-called entartete Kunst. Very friendly service. It was a pity only that we were not allowed to take pictures.

Die Dorfkirche Stiepel mit seinem umliegenden Friedhof ist ein historisches Kleinod in der ansonsten von der Industriekultur geprägten Stadt Bochum.
Ursprünglich aus dem frühen 11. Jahrhundert wurde die Kirche immer wieder aus- und umgebaut bis sie schließlich seine heutig weitestgehend gotische Form einem auffälligen Fachwerkgiebel fand. Im Inneren beeindrucken insbesondere die selten so gesehenen mittelalterlichen Wandmalereien.
Ein Besuch lohnt sich auf jeden Fall.

Wie einem die Musik gefällt, hängt natürlich ab vom Programm, vom Dirigenten, von den Solisten etc. Deshalb will ich meine Bewertung ganz auf den äußeren Rahmen beschränken.
Fangen wir an mit dem Gebäude. Das Foyer in einer ehemaligen Kirche ist einfach sensationell. Gut, es gibt kaum Sitzgelegenheiten, aber die Atmosphäre ist einmalig. Jetzt kommen wir zum Großen Saal. Die Sitze sind recht bequem, und man hat von wirklich jedem Sitz aus einen guten Blick und eine gute Akustik. Aber eine Augenweide ist der Saal nicht gerade. Stilistisch am ehesten als 50er-Jahre-Retro einzuordnen (mit den typischen geknickten Linien und den schiefen Winkeln; selbst ansonsten funktionslose Gardinen fehlen nicht). Nicht wirklich schön und auch mit Stilbrüchen (die weißen Akustiksegel an der Decke passen überhaupt nicht zu den Beige-Holz-Tönen im Saal).
Nächster Punkt: Die Organisation. Obwohl das Konzerthaus nagelneu ist, ist die Organisation der Garderobe eine Katastrophe. Nach dem Konzert wälzt sich ein Tsunami von Besuchern der Garderobe entgegen und jeder versucht, sich vorzudrängeln. Unwürdig und insgesamt auch sehr langsam.
Dazu passt das Thema Parken. Das Konzerthaus hat kein eigenes Parkhaus, was verschmerzbar ist, weil es das Bermuda-Parkhaus in der Nähe gibt. Aber man muss schon ein paar hundert Meter durchs Freie laufen, was bei Regen oder Schnee nicht so angenehm ist. Sehr ärgerlich ist die Kassensituation. Nach dem Konzert gab es eine riesige Schlange vor den beiden Kassenautomaten, die auch keine Karten (weder Maestro noch Kreditkarten) akzeptieren. Und einer der beiden Automaten nimmt noch nicht einmal Scheine. Wo sind wir hier? In der Provinz?
Die letzten Besucher, die ins Parkhaus gekommen waren, hatten für Garderobe plus Parkhauskasse geschlagene 60 Minuten ab Schlussapplaus benötigt. Das ist einfach nicht zumutbar und wäre ganz einfach anders zu lösen (z.B. durch einen Kassenautomaten im Konzerthaus, wo man seinen Parkschein schon vor dem Konzert bezahlen kann). Ganz schlechte Planung.
Fairerweise muss ich sagen, dass man im Parkhaus auch schon vor Konzertbeginn zahlen kann. Aber das Schild, das auf diese Möglichkeit hinweist, ist so winzig und so schlecht platziert, dass es von 98% der Konzertbesucher übersehen wurde.
Und dann müssen wir noch über die "Gastronomie" reden. Auf der Website der Bochumer Philharmoniker heißt es, es gäbe im Foyer eine Gastronomie, die "Snacks" serviert. Das wünscht man sich auch, denn wenn ein Konzert um 19:00 beginnt, es es etwas hektisch, noch um 17:30 essen zu gehen, damit man pünktlich fertig ist. Aber die Snacks entpuppten sich als Schokoriegel und sonst gar nichts. In der Pause sollte es noch Brezeln gegeben haben, aber als wir es durch die Schlange zur Theke geschafft hatten, waren diese ausverkauft. Eine Spielstätte ohne Verpflegung passt heute einfach nicht mehr in die Zeit.
Abschließend muss ich zusammenfassen, dass uns der Konzertbesuch doch durch viele bauliche und organisatorische Unzulänglichkeiten vermiest wurde. Ich hoffe, das sind Kinderkrankheiten und diese Bewertung trägt dazu bei, dass diese abgestellt werden.
Übrigens war Haydns "Schöpfung" ganz ausgezeichnet gespielt worden.
