Veramar Vineyard

Founded in 2000, Veramar Vineyard was one of the first successful wineries in the northern Shenandoah Valley. The vineyard is run by James and Della Bogaty, who were original members of the Shenandoah Valley Wine Trail. Justin, their son, is the winemaker. He is a graduate of VMI and has a certificate of oenology from UC Davis. Our wine is internationally-acclaimed, and is made at the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains.

After our plans for the day fell through, I took my parents to this winery. It was in a lovely setting and the server Amberly was super friendly. My dad and I did a tasting and the wines left a little to be desired. The wines were rather sour and had some weird aftertastes. It left a little to be desired.

Excellent fresh fruits and vegetables, some home canned goods, and a few pies and other fresh-made baked goods, at great prices. I bought a half-peck of same-day-picked peaches (about 12) for $10! A nice place to stop if driving between Winchester and Leeburg, on Rt. 7.

This artistic family has a nice variety to offer. The studio is attached to their home, so you think "maybe I'm not in the right place", but don't hesitate! There are pottery pieces both practical and purely decorative, and most are both. I happen to love Liam's graphic art. A great place for gifts, too. Location is very convenient and accessible in Berryville. Don't miss it!

Everyone was so nice here. We had the tasting room to ourselves since we came late in the day. The winery is tucked up in the hills. The tasting room was quite comfortable and our pourers were friendly. The wines were nice. The chardonnay, Cabernet franc and port style (sultry n red) were favorites.

approximately 90 minutes west of the urban jungle of DC through the suburban sprawl of Northern Virginia is an oasis in space and time... well worth the side trip. wander the grounds, enjoy the quiet, punctuated by the calls of birds. sit on the bank and watch the Shenandoah River flow by and again, relish the quiet. respect the monks and those on religious retreats by not approaching any of the buildings, except the gift shop.
in the shop, the creamed honey is unique and most tasty. there are also jams/preserves and candies made by trappist monks and nuns elsewhere. sadly they no longer sell the wonderful bread they used to make- a monk related to me that the bread business became so popular that it detracted from the monastic lifestyle, so they ceased sales

This beautiful building was reconstructed from two old barns that are original to the property. There is a large gallery space on the first floor and an acoustically sweet performance space on the second floor. The variety of musical and other performances are amazing for such a small town; there is a bar and occasionally food for sale.
