The Madonna of the Bridge...located under a giant motorway bridge in the Sicilian countryside....what's so special? Well, the local people believe that the Madonna of the Bridge performs miracles and saves lives...mainly the lives of people who were in car/motorcycle accidents.....and in a special area of the Church, people have 'donated' broken motorcycle helmets, false limbs, dolls and a host of other items in 'celebration' of the miracles! There are even some paintings of agricultural accidents from which the injured parties recovered. You'll never see anything like this again......!!!!
You need a car, no chance of public transport. Definitely worth a stop off if you're in the area!

Centro Storico di Alcamo

Driving between Trapani and Palermo we decided to make a stop in Alcamo which is exactly the mid-point between the two cities. Alcamo is a fair-size town of about 45,000 inhabitants set up high (840 feet above sea level) and featuring a lovely historic center with several medieval treasures. Most noteworthy is the Castle of Counts of Modica and the Basilica of Santa Maria Assunta also known as the mother church.
We found free parking in a park-square near the historic center and toured on foot the main sites including the pedestrian area and the fascinating Piazza Ciullo where you have a number of bars-cafés where we stopped for a drink and a bite.
