Saga Hill Trial

Reviewed By kay n - Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Today, I did my 3rd jungle trekking of Apek Hill trail.
1st time was 3 weeks ago with my14 year old son, started from Cheras Awana entrance, to Station 2, then straight to Station 6 and came down via Station 5, 4, 3A, 3, 2 and back to the entrance. It took us about 3 1/2 hours with many stoppages in between and got lost between Station 3 and 2. Being first timers, we felt the journey took ages but we loved every bit of it. The tranquillity, fresh air, challenging and steep terrain, friendly fellow hikers along the trail and various neatly set up stations just made us wanted to come back for more. Btw, I learnt from regular hikers there that the trail and Stations are maintained by several different groups of volunteers.
A week after that, we both ventured out for the 2nd time, but it was more adventurous than the first. Like the 1st time, we shot cut from Station 2 to Station 6, and after a short refreshment, hiked down to waterfall enroute Station 5. The trail from Station 5 to the waterfall has its different type of challenge and excitement, it's quite deserted and at some points the downwards decline is enormous and slippery. It all paid off when we reached the beautiful waterfall after approximately 40 minutes from Station 5. After cooling off there for about 45 minutes, we brazed the upwards hike back to Station 5, then to 4, 3A and 3. This time, from the confidence that we gained from our 1st trip, and instead of going to Station 2, we took a slightly longer and steeper downwards trail from Station 3 to Station 1, and from there, there's a different path that joins back to Awana entrance. The whole trip including all stoppages took 5 hours 45 minutes.
This afternoon, I did it solo as my son had tuition class and unable to join me. Unlike 2 previous morning hikes, doing it in the afternoon, and in the month of Ramadan with far fewer hikers, allowed me to immense more with nature. This time, I took the longer route up and shorter route down - From entrance to Station 2, then 3, 3A, 4, 5, 6 and down to 2 and entrance. All in, 3 hours including a long rest at Station 6 where I met some regular and friendly hikers who shared their valuable hiking experience in Bukit Saga and many other trails, including an ederly lady maybe in her late 60s who have climed Mt. Kinabalu 5 times.
If you have not done this trail, do give it a try, and chances are, the more you do it, the more you will like it.

The National Zoo is situated 13 km from the centre of Kuala Lumpur. Its aquarium "Tunku Abdul Rahman Aquarium" is a very popular attraction. It displays over 80 species of aquatic animals, both marine and Freshwater, including invertebrates.

Although it's about 20 minutes by taxi from the center of the city, this small zoo delivers in every respect. Definitely use your KL Transit card to get a discount. The panda pavillion is quite impressive and there is plenty of beautiful grounds to explore this more traditional zoo. I was told it's also near a place where you can experience off road riding and other adventure bikes.

The Garage KL

TheGarage.KL is a hangout place where you can do many things. you can shop, you can eat, you can send your car to the workshop on the groundfloor, you can even get a haircut!

Reviewed By kim l - Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

After Reading the good reviews on The Garage, we decided to have dinner there tonight. As it was still fairly early (before 7pm), parking was readily available. I would describe the decor and style of the building as 'retro' possibly targeted at the younger crowds, liken to a biker's haven of sorts. To my surprise, the older crowds started to fill the place as the night progressed. Mak cik, pak cik, nenek and atoks aplenty! Interesting crowd indeed.
We ordered the chicken chop, chicken parmesan, chicken pizza, seafood marinara pasta and beef carbonara pasta. The food was decent but nothing to rave about. The prices were reasonable. No liquor is served here so be prepared for a VERY sober night.
Unfortunately we couldn't stay long enough to hear the band play and hey... if the music is good, this could possibly be the jolt & shake The Garage needs....a watershed moment!
