My daughter was getting married in upstate New York and decided to rent the Thatcher State Park Visitors Center for the reception. It was a great choice. The area was set aside from the visitors center and was surrounded by doors. Once the doors were opened the tables of guests filling the floor were sitting in an indoor/outdoor area in a beautiful park with magnificent views. At the rear of the dining area was a covered outdoor area used for drinks and the like. Did I mention it was a self catered affair. There was a small kitchen area they used for preparation and then brought the food out to a buffet table area. The other open area was a good sized slate patio with some chairs and other seats. It was used for dancing and milling. View was beautiful. More than one guest said they would return to walk the many trails.

This environmental center is close to Albany and sounded interesting-miles of trails, ponds and a creek.
Don't bother. The trails are poorly laid out, poorly maintained, and poorly drained. The trail map is the worst I have ever seen-incomprehensible. Because the trails (especially North Loop and Wild Turkey) are so soggy, walkers have walked to the sides, expanding trail (and the soggy, muddy area) to six feet in places. There are random bits of wood chips and gravel in some places with no particular logic or purpose.
There is a large and ugly State construction site at the beginning of North Loop/Wild Turkey-bulldozed and muddy.
The scenery is no great shakes either-third growth forest, open fields with distant views of McMansions. The only wildlife we observed were squirrels.
We left after a hour, our shoes caked with several pounds of clay, and our socks soaked.

As a first time visitor, I was blown away by both the low ticket prices and the amazing way this family run theater looks. Everything is neat, modern and nicely decorated. The lobby isn't huge, but it definitely is well organized with the box office located immediately as you walk in the main doors. They still give the now old fashioned ticket stubs, which is really cool also. They don't accept credit cards, but the prices are so low a small amount of cash suffices (and there is also an ATM in the lobby). The concession stand is small but has all the basics such as fresh popcorn, candy, nachos and bottled or fountain soda. Again, the prices were very, very reasonable compared to other local movie chains.
The theater itself is reminiscent of the UA and Hellman theaters of the 70's and 80's which i personally miss. There are dual staircases going up to the balcony, which is pretty large and offers more modern seats than below. The main theater has a main row of several seats with a row of 2 seats on each side. There is alot of leg room and the seats are comfortable too. If attending with a child, they have booster seats in the lobby which proved very useful .
The pre-show starts about 20 minutes or so before the main feature and is a locally produced introduction to the Scotia area. It is probably the most informative pre show i've encountered at a movie theater. It highlights the history of the theater and the village of Scotia and pretty much the entire Schenectady County area.
As an added surprise, when my daughter had eaten all of her popcorn and asked for more, I got up and figured for $2.00 i'd be more than happy to get her more. As i made my way to the concession stand I noticed other parents bringing their empty popcorn buckets and wondered why? Turns out that refills for ANY size popcorn or soda is only $1.00!! I went back and grabbed both the large and small containers and got refills for both.
I honestly, do not have 1 single negative comment about this theater. The owners are there working hard everyday to keep up the immaculate lobby and theater. As soon as the movie ended and people had begun to leave, the owner himself was out there picking up trash and spilled popcorn while other family members were busy with vacuums and trash bags. The dedication of this family is what will guarantee that the theater will be operational for many more years to come. If you haven't been here, do come and enjoy a magnificent locally owned theater unlike any other in the Capital District.

Indian Ladder has been around for decades and we've been bringing our kids and now grandkid here for most of the last almost 30 years. They have everything from fresh cider and doughnuts to a great petting zoo, farm animals, pick your own apples of many varieties and a great lunch counter/shop. During the non-apple season they grow many fruits that are also pick yourself like blueberries, strawberries, raspberries and in the fall pumpkins. If you don't want to pick, you can always buy your fruit too. There are hay rides, tours and great scenery to just look at as the farm sits at the base of the Helderbergs. Definitely one of those don't miss stops in the region.

Beautifully updated Rollerskating rink located in the heart of the Town of Rotterdam, NY. Featuring hardwood skating surface, full concession area, free wifi throughout the building, game room, Stuff Shop, we sell skates and equipment. We do the BEST Birthday parties around! We also do private skating or non skating parties and corporate events, we offer classes for children and adults, private lessons, adult skating sessions. Rollarama is home rink for the Hellions of Troy all women Roller Derby League. The Hellions hold bouts at the rink several times per year. We have plenty of free parking.

The rollarama was updated not too long ago - vibrant colors greet you as you approach. My nephew visits there frequently, meeting up with his friends and enjoying some good ole' fashion clean fun. Prepare to be mesmerized by the crowd!

This is a hidden gem ! They keep this beautiful garden immaculate! The smells alone will keep you on a bench for the afternoon. People watching is great since many weddings stop for pictures. They keep improving this peaceful little spot every year something new seems added. Such great memories, since my husband purposed under the arch.

This place is really nice! We came here with some family back in July to try the tasting room and it was really good, especially for such a new place. The beer and cider were quite tasty and the staff were very, very kind. They also opened up the snack shop after it closed to sell us a few apple cider donuts (and they gave us one extra), which was unexpected and showed how much they care about their customers. I highly recommend this place and it's a shame we moved out of the area before we could enjoy this place in Autumn!

Glad to have found this place. Beautiful natural surroundings including pond & great view of vineyard. Tasting room is nicely decorated. Tasting is a great deal at $5, including rosemary infused oil and local cheddar, as well as 6 wines each with a generous pour! Staff friendly, including the resident pooch. Picnic area seemed very nice, although we hadn't brought a picnic. Highly recommend.

I was really excited about this hike after reading reviews and tags on hiking focused sites, but this is really not a great location. Trail maintenance ranges wildly between "very well marked for this small stretch" to "completely unnavigable." I got lost at least 4 separate times and met several other hikers who were lost as well. The trails are not at all wheelchair-accessible--there are plenty of steep spots, overgrown tree roots, and haphazard "I guess crossing this riverbed of rocks is the right way" trails.
The view of the electric wires has plenty of mushrooms and wildflowers along the way--it's actually very pretty, would recommend going to the east side. I went to the west side as well in search of the supposed waterfalls, hiked around for at least 2 hours, and only saw a sad tiny trickle. Would not recommend the Mariaville entrance even though it's the "main" one.
